For two minutes, the only sound in the cave was our heavy breathing. The aftermath of the battle hung over us like a shroud, a stark reminder of the chaos and violence we had just endured. The tension slowly began to dissipate, but the silence was a fleeting reprieve before the next challenge.

I had just finished taking several recovery pills, their bitter taste lingering in my mouth. My body was still trembling from the exertion, and my clothes clung to me, damp with sweat and blood. I managed to catch my breath and, though my voice was strained, said, "Let's go back to the village. We still need to report in".

Juri, her eyes filled with concern an urgency, placed her palms gently on my face. Her touch was both soothing and insistent. "No, we need to hide. You need to rest a little."

I sighed deeply, too exhausted to argue. My limbs felt leaden, and every movement was a struggle. "Hah, okay."

"Let's head back to the cave," I agreed, nodding. The cave had become a temporary refuge, a sanctuary from the chaos outside. It was a familiar haven where we could regroup and tend to our wounds.

In the Cave

The three of them, wrapped around me, provided a sanctuary of warmth and support.

The wind whistled through the small entrance of the cave, ruffling my now-white hair. I removed my mask and the torn remnants of my gloves, letting the cool air soothe my battered skin.
