Iruka gave a reassuring smile, "I just gave you my word, stupid." He sent another pulse absentmindedly, needing Naruto to clear his name quickly. As he continued to do this, he was rapidly burning through his chakra. "Now let's go, Naruto-"
His pulse actually caught something this time, and it was coming at them fast. "Naruto, watch out!" Iruka threw Naruto to the ground just as a massive shuriken whizzed by where he had been standing a second ago.
"Good job, Naruto." Mizuki said as he appeared standing on a tree branch, looking at him and Iruka. Iruka had gotten back up and was now on the defensive in front of Naruto. "Now give me the scroll."
Iruka's fingers flexed next to his kunai and shuriken pouch on his thigh. "He already knows you tricked him, Mizuki. Should you have been a little faster, or maybe you couldn't find your own decoy?" Iruka took a moment to pat himself on the back for irritating Mizuki.
Mizuki sneered at Iruka before turning a kinder gaze to the scar-faced young man behind the chunin. "Naruto, have you ever wondered why everyone hates you? Everyone in the village knows except for you."
Naruto scowled at Mizuki, "I don't care what you have to say, you bastard! You tricked me!"
Naruto was angry.
If Sasuke found out about this, their arguments would be in his favor.
He couldn't let this drag on any longer.
Mizuki frowned, he really wanted to bring down the demon brat, but whether he told him the truth or not, he was going to die in the end, so it didn't really matter. He shook his head before pulling out another large shuriken from his back.
However, he was unaware that Naruto was already aware of the creature residing inside him.
So, his taunts were ineffective.
"I'm pissed off right now."
Naruto glared threateningly at Mizuki.
Unconsciously, a large amount of dense blue chakra leaked from his body.
Mizuki couldn't believe what he was seeing, Naruto's chakra kept growing until it formed a massive chakra storm.
Seeing this...
Iruka wanted to laugh in Mizuki's face. Well, he was about to get what was coming to him in a moment anyway.
Obviously, Mizuki had been preparing for this little plan of his, but it's not like Iruka had been sitting on his ass doing nothing.
Being the teacher he was, he had free rein and plenty of reasons to go to the library, not just to gather additional materials for his lectures, but also to occasionally pass by the section reserved for exercises and jutsu, and while he was there.
There was never anything too high-level for everyone to see beyond basic techniques and at most intermediate ones, that was never really a bad thing.
Basics were basics for a reason, because they worked, and the tactical and theoretical ideas in the tome were more than enough for someone like him, they helped him develop his sounding technique on his own.
"Being the teacher that he was, he also stayed after school many times to finish his work for the day when Mizuki simply went home since he was just his assistant.
Apparently a good thing, but Mizuki had to isolate himself to organize all this, plan and prepare.
How much could he train and improve on his own? Iruka didn't have that problem. All the teachers were at least chunin by prerequisite, and they all trained together regularly after school to make sure their skills stayed in shape in case it was necessary.
He never remembered Mizuki receiving that memo, as it was a given to ask and receive for that privilege, no one was going to force you to train.
Being the teacher that he was, he may have been just a chunin, but he was a chunin with every worthwhile battle scenario memorized and ingrained in the back of his brain.
Mizuki may have been treacherous and cunning, but Iruka could be just as cunning as him, and he had the technical nuances of being a ninja locked in his head.
While they may have had a similar level of strength and while Mizuki may have been slightly stronger than him, he knew he was better. Mizuki simply thought he was better, but in a direct fight, Iruka was confident Mizuki couldn't beat him.
"Naruto isn't a monster. The only monster I see here is you, turning a student's trust into a weapon against him of your own volition." Iruka held a kunai in his right hand, ready for combat.
Without knowing why, his opinion of Naruto had changed, and for the better.
Mizuki chuckled under his breath upon hearing this and pulled out his own kunai to appease Iruka, "You should have let it go, Iruka. I tried to dissuade you from this just so you know. Why do you defend him? He's just-".
Mizuki didn't even finish speaking when a gust of wind crashed into his body.
Sending him flying through the air, taking down dozens of trees with him.
Naruto watched this with a shocked expression.
"So weak for a chunin."
"I just used a random wind-style technique."
On the other hand, Iruka expected something like this.
Even he occasionally avoided stopping fights between Naruto and Sasuke.
He left this job to Nawaki, who had become an important asset in maintaining order at the academy.
Seconds later...
Mizuki stood up and dusted himself off before roaring towards Naruto, "Damn it, I'll kill you with one blow!"
"Come and try then! I'll give it back to you multiplied by a thousand!" Naruto roared back, clenching his fists tightly.
Mizuki must have taken that as a personal challenge because he charged forward to take out Naruto.
Naruto made a crossed sign with the index and middle fingers of both hands as a large cloud of smoke enveloped the field.
"Kage Bunshin no Jutsu (Shadow Clone Jutsu)!"
