Mystic Thief

Seventeen-year-old Devon Oasis became an orphan at the tender age of seven when his parents fell victim to an invasion. The tragedy occurred after their rival kingdom, Feuer, stole the power crystals that energized the defensive pillars of Devon's home kingdom, Audaznimo. The kingdom of Audaznimo was attacked on the same night the crystals were stolen, although the assault did not originate from Feuer. Audaznimo, having placed unwavering trust in the impregnable defense of the pillars, had let their guard down. Unfortunately, the pillars failed, resulting in a massacre of innocent lives. The method by which Feuer managed to dismantle the supposedly impenetrable towers remained a mystery to all. Although Audaznimo managed to push back the invaders, it was too late—the damage was already done. Devon, having lost his parents during the invasion, was fortunate to find solace with his uncle, the leader of a theft gang within the kingdom. Initially hesitant to involve his nephew in their illicit activities, Devon's uncle ultimately decided to impart his knowledge, believing it would benefit his nephew in various ways. Thus, Devon was introduced to the clandestine world of thievery. He became a part of the group, a group of young people of similar ages who had to steal to be able to sustain the orphanage. They were always reminded by his uncle that they were only stealing to make sure they survived at the orphanage since the kingdom didn't care about them and went on to lay out certain morals for them as thieves. However, Devon found those morals to be pointless because he had grown to love the thrill of stealing, the great sensation that came from being chased after taking someone's possessions. If there was anything he wanted, he was going to take it no matter what because to him, upholding morals as a thief was pointless and his fate as a thief was already sealed. Excerpt: "You know this is a B-ranked mission so Emilia will go with you and please try not to do anything careless?" His uncle's words rang in his mind as he freely tumbled down the hill of sand and when he finally hit the floor, he lost consciousness. [ Host is active ] [ System rebooting ] "What's going on?" He groaned as he sat up on the floor and pulled out the knife that was stuck on the left side of his abdomen, he was bleeding but surprisingly, he couldn't focus on that. [ Reboot completed ] [ Hello, Devon ] [ Your Master Thief System Is Active ] "What the heck is going on?" After mumbling those words, his vision slowly began to fade until he crashed down to the floor and passed out. What he obtained that day was a system that aligned perfectly with his major goal in life. "If all I have to do to become better at stealing is to keep stealing then that means I'm never going to stop for anything or anyone." ______ The story is going to start out a bit slow paced but I assure you that you're in for a ride because it won't take long before everything speeds up and the plot starts to get revealed bit by bit, enjoy! Chapter Fourteen: Deep Into The Forest

Just like Devon already explained to Erina, Victor was a kid who was lucky enough to be enrolled in the academy because he had an ability, but besides that, he had nothing else going for him.

He was just a kid with no real backbone, a pushover, and because of that he constantly got bullied inside and outside the academy.

Dave crossed paths with him on a certain day when he was getting bullied by three students outside the academy.

He wasn't even going to bother to help him or do anything because it was none of his business, that was until Victor said something that caught his attention.

He knew his combat abilities weren't the best so he had to take them from behind with his tricks, and that was how Victor got attached to him somewhat.

"I thought you didn't like breaking the rules," Devon said after hearing Victor say that he took out a book from the library's restricted section.

"I just have to return it before sunset and nobody will find out, I'm almost done with it anyway," Victor replied.

"Nobody breaks the rule to actually get caught, if it was certain that everyone would get caught immediately after breaking the rules then most people would stay away from it. Some people do it for the thrill which is sort of stupid if you ask me."

'Isn't that the category you fall in?'

'Yeah, doesn't mean it's not stupid, also that's not the only reason I do it you know, doing it just for the thrill is the highest order of stupidity.'

"Some do it because they have to, some because of curiosity which is obviously why you took that book, and then there's the worst, those who do it because they're pushed into doing it against their will."

"Okay, fine, I admit it, I did something bad, happy now?" Victor fumed before turning his gaze back to his book.

"You don't have to do bad things to stand up for yourself but the fact that you had the courage to go to the restricted section and take something from there means that you're starting to see the light."

After saying all that, there was no response from Victor who still had his gaze on his book.

"Are you ignoring me?"

He wanted to say something when his gaze turned to the side and he spotted someone.

A girl who was dressed in the same uniform as Victor so it was obvious that she was in the academy, but something seemed to be off.

Every female student was required to wear a skirt or at least wear a skirt over whatever they insisted on wearing to cover their legs but she was dressed just like every other male student.

She had an oval face and a pair of green eyes, her hair was golden brown and seemed to be permed but she had it tied back in a ponytail now.

She had a slender but nice body and had little freckles on both sides of her face.

She was a stunning beauty for sure, but what really caught Devon's attention was the fact that she wasn't dressed like every other female student he had seen before.

"Who is she?"

"Who?" Victor said before turning to see who he was talking about. "Oh, her."

"Yes, her."

"Really? You don't know who Princess Elena is?"

"Princess?" He said with a confused expression on his face.

"Yeah, you're always out here and you don't know who she is?" Erina said.

Both she and Victor were quite surprised that he didn't know who the Princess of Audaznimo was.

"Maybe, I've seen her before, I just don't like paying attention to people unless I have to." He explained before turning his gaze back to the princess who seemed to be talking to another student now. "So, she's the princess."

"She's so pretty, right," Victor said.

It wasn't really his intention for that to come out like that which was the reason why he was covering his mouth now.

"Um…I wasn't thinking of that, I was just wondering why she wasn't dressed like the other females but it makes sense now, it's not a surprise to see royalty getting special treatment, and they also have a lot of valuable possessions."

"Um…I think that last part was out of context."Erina whispered to him.

With so many students flooding into the area, Victor had to leave to avoid getting caught with the book, and after that, Devon had to leave with Erina.

"I guess Victor being there wasn't ideal for our deal," Erina said as they walked back.

"Yeah," Devon muttered.

"But don't worry….."

That was the moment Devon stopped listening to her because they seemed to have gotten to the adventurer's guild area.

He had his gaze on the area where the booth for the guild was placed as the lady who was always there seemed to be talking with a man who appeared to be a merchant.

"Hey, Erina, wait let me go check this out."

"Huh?"

Before she could even say anything, he was already heading toward the area and she had no choice but to follow him.

________ _______

Deep into the forest of Audaznimo, everything seemed to be normal with animals running around and birds perching on trees and singing beautiful songs to make the forest look like a warm place, but all it took to send the creatures running was a bang that took down a couple of trees with it.

When the area where the impact happened cleared up, someone could be seen standing there.

The person was putting on a hood that covered every single part of their body but this person wasn't alone.

There was also a young boy whose hands seemed to be bound by some kind of red rope which looked like something that was conjured from a spell.

The boy was trembling but he dared not make a sound, perhaps that was because the person in the hood instructed him not to say a word.

"All you have to do is take the crown from his head then I will bring you back and set you free."

Those were the words from the hooded person and judging from the tone of the voice, it turned out it was a woman.

"Don't forget to use the shield or you'll die."

After saying that, he sent the boy flying forward. It looked like he was about to hit the tree in front of him when he suddenly went through some kind of rift and found himself in some kind of other world.

The sky was completely red and it looked like there was nothing in the area.

At least, that's what he thought until a large axe came slashing toward him from above.

Before he could react in any way, the axe went through his head, slashing everything and dividing him into two separate parts.

There was no sign of struggle as his blood spilled all over the floor with his organs already there.

His pulsating heart which was on the floor now was his only sign of struggle, but it didn't take long before that died out.

"You bastard! I told you to use the shield!" She bellowed before biting her lower lip. "Just return my crown, you abomination of a child!"

As soon as she said that, the axe came slashing toward her, and just as it hit the floor on her side, she closed the rift.

She was growling now as she folded both of her hands into fists.

"Again, you will pay for this Nathaniel."
