Artie was merely observing and admiring the sights while feeling funny when Larkin leaned against her. However, upon hearing his words, she twitched and turned her head to him. "Defenses? What does that mean?"
"A strong demon barrier run across that land, using the forest as a mirage." Larkin moved his hand to trace the forest. "Should there be a war between Talcum and Ellis Plains, the forest will dissolve into its pure form and serve as a barrier for the plains… and the six other duchies that used to belong under the plain's jurisdiction."
He brought down his arm, but he placed his hand on top of Artie's hand on the railing. "However, Miel and I are finding ways to tamper with that barrier's inclusion. Ancient demon arts are hard to decipher and alter, but it's just a matter of time before we find success." He then leaned down and sighed. "Artie, the glass spirits will be flowing into the ravine soon. The scouts you killed are nothing compared to the real enemy.
