This strong marriage of mine

[Kaleah POV]

The room sounds quiet, there is a small sound that beeps every ten seconds, my body feels stiff, it is quite different from how I felt yesterday, it is less painful.

I hear Zoey, giggling, Ah…. This is refreshing I haven't heard her giggle like this since forever.

My heavy eyelids, seem to want to open, "Cyan?" I asked bewildered why Cyan was here, did we escape.

"You are awake," she exclaimed happily, "wait, I will call the doctor."

Ah… yes, I remember Clayton rescued us, Cyan puts Zoey to a stroller near my hospital bed and runs out calling the doctor frantically.

It is over, it is finally over, I call feel the tears run down my cheeks, my body is still sore, it can't seem to want to move.

"Hi, Mrs. Beckett, my name is Dr Martin," that tittle no longer seem to suit me, How can a filthy broken woman like me be associated to Clayton still.

"Hi," I muttered with a hoarse voice.

"Are you feeling alright?" he asked gently, Cyan is behind the doctor and in true Cyan style worrying like crazy.

"I am okay, it is just hard to move," I reply.

"Don't worry, it is because of the bandages, we will observe you for a few days until we remove the bandages from your body, and you will be able to move," he explained.

"Thank you," I say trying my best not to cry, I feel so emotional, these past few days were hell, and me being able to be this free is nothing short of miracle.

The doctor briefed us on more about my condition before leaving. "Can you stop," I grumbled at Cyan who was crying.

"What, you are crying too," she replied, "can I hug you; will it be too painful if I do?"

She is frantic, so am I, I had almost lost hope of ever leaving that place, three days and I had already lost hope.

I look around for my husband who is nowhere to be seen, ugh…... who am I kidding, why would he be here, he must be disgusted with me.

"You can hug me Cyan, just be gentle," I am disappointed a bit, that my husband is not here.

Cyan, move to give me a long hug, still crying her eyes out, "oh…. Zoey wants to hug you too."

She gently places Zoey on top of me, who giggles when she sees my face, I am happy see look safe, no major bruises on her.

"I don't think this is a hug," I say chuckling as Zoey starts munching on my cheek, she is full of life yet again, not screaming and crying because of distress.

"Come on don't eat mama's cheek princess," I say to her happily, it seems Zoey has always been that hope I wanted, Cyan just giggles at the scene.

I hear a loud bag at the door, I divert my eyes to see Clayton at the door, he starts crying the moment our eyes meet.

"You are awake," he mutters, moving closer to the bed. "Um…. Yeah."

Unlike Cyan he didn't ask before hugging me tears still streaming down his eyes. "A bit gentle there you will crush Zoey.

"I am so happy you are okay," he says ignoring my protest, "I am so sorry, I should have protected you better."

"It is okay Clay, I am fine now," I say.

We might never heal to a point where we are whole, as when glass breaks smalls pieces are lost and it is never whole when it is put together, but at least there is chance to put us back together.

"Come on stop crushing Zoey," Cyan grumbles, we stop hugging with Clayton rolling his eyes, Zoey didn't seem to mind the hugging though.

I felt ashamed to even look at Clayton's eyes, it was clear he saw that video, "are you okay? Did the doctor come check on you."

But he didn't seem like he hated me though, his eyes full of worry didn't shy away from mine, "I am fine Clay, just a little sore."

"What, I will that incompetent doctor to..."

"Clayton I cannot fully recover in one day, I am sure Dr Martin did his best," I scold.

"Fine," he mutters before seating on the bed, "I was so worried, wait did they give you food?"

"Clayton I am fine, stop panicking will you," I say firmly, Cyan almost burst out laughing watching her brother acting a fool.

Cyan had stayed for a while before returning home with Zoey, "she is afraid of loud sounds so don't make loud sounds," he was tucking Zoey gently into her stroller, briefing Cyan on Zoey's new fear.

I felt really guilty, I know why she is now afraid of loud sounds, "I swear if you keep blaming yourself about this, I will terrorize all the nurses and doctors of this hospital and you will be embarrassed."

Clayton threatened after seeing my gloomy face, I cannot help but cry, he was supposed to hate me, but he is just so sweet, and thoughtful still.

"Oh…... come on Leah, no crying, I will cry if you do," he says giving me a hug. I felt calmer, loved, it is weird I was waiting for them to abandon me like father did.

"I love you so much," I mutter hugging my husband, "I love you too."

Clayton stayed with me the whole night, Joshua Carter who was the lawyer handling the case visited me the next day briefing me on what to do next.

"Good to see you are well Mrs. Beckett" he says, "anyway, due to Ellen Mule's injuries the hearing might start in a few weeks once he is fully recovered."

"Injuries?" Ellen didn't have injuries at all, he was fully healthy when I last saw him, but I caught Clayton acting sheepish.

"What did you do?" I asked confused.

"Just a few punches here and there," he lies, I know he is lying because he is avoiding my gaze, "nothing major."

Well, he must have been angry, putting him in the hospital like that proves so, I don't blame him, he had every right.

"It is fine Clayton, he probably deserved it," I see him light up immediately, I went through hell in that man's arms what made him think I will be mad that he roughed him up a bit.

"Well, at least he is not getting sued for attempted murder," Joshua joked, turns out it was not roughing up a little bit huh.

"Anyway, we might have a big problem since the judge handling the case is Naidoo," Joshua cursed, "I applied for a change, and we will wait until then."

"Is he a bad judge?" I asked.

"He tends to take bribes and he is not a big fan of mine since I almost made him lose his job a while back," Joshua explains, "but I will do everything in my power to make sure Mr. Mule doesn't walk free.

"Thank you," Joshua had a small talk with Clayton before leaving.

"You should head home to take a bath," I tell Clayton who ignores me.

"I will go home when you do."

"What? You can't do that, you will need to take care of the company," but he just shrugs before saying, "turns out Cain can handle the company alone."

With the family coming in and out of the hospital and forcing Clayton to at least go home and nurses changing my bandages every once in a while, I was able to recover enough to return home in just a week.

It felt good to be home, having my husband run around treating me like I couldn't do anything for myself.

"I can drink water on my own Clayton," I grumble, I hear Melisa chuckle at my frustration.

Joshua and his wife were visiting today to tell us about the trial, I felt very nervous. They don't really convict a lot of criminals for this sort of thing, and the way the media has been covering this, it seems Ellen might walk free.

"Hi," Evelyn Carter greets, she has been my new favorite woman, she was a true Queen.

"Hello," I greet back trying my best not to fangirl, they both sat on the couch before they both sigh.

They had bad news I was sure of it, "well judge Naidoo is taking the case, and Ellen might not face the minimum amount of time in prison." Joshua explained.

"Oh…..."

"We will try our best to make sure he gets what he deserves but with that waterfilled head of judge it will be hard," Evelyn says, I want to say it will be okay, but I can't, what if he returns for revenge and tries to harm us again.

"Nothing bad will happen okay," Clayton says in a calm voice, I was now trembling in fear in his arms, I was scared.

"Don't worry, when the trial starts next week, we will make sure everyone sees the monster Ellen Mule is," Joshua said making me more afraid.

"Next week? The trial starts next week?"

"Oh… yeah, it has been pushed forward to next week, apparently he can stand trail now." Evelyn said.
