My grandmother was right to do so. In that village, teenage pregnancies were common, and in class I could watch live and in color as a few bellies grew. That was the deadliest sexual disease one could get.
A Baby.
I was also brought to a home delivery in the village; it was normal for the older women to help the expecting mothers while giving birth.
And I saw everything. Being positioned in front of the woman who was giving birth, I could see the feces, the blood, the small alien that fought itself out, the injuries her body took, and the afterbirth. It was really the most life-changing experience. What others found to be the miracle of life, I found so horrifyingly disgusting that I really questioned why humans hadn't preferred to go extinct. That was just plain masochism.
