Caught Lurking In The Dark
"Wait..." Her eyes darting to the reception all of a sudden, Rin held her arm in front of me while slowly moving around her work desk. After a quick scan with her eyes, she reached for one of the drawers and opened one. "This was left half open."
"What?" From the angle I stood, I didn't even notice it, but perhaps the abnormality was more apparent to her since she worked on the desk all day.
"Yeah, and this stupid paperweight…" Reaching for the cartoonish paperweight that looked like a bat, she picked it off the table. "I left it inside right above the ledger–"
The crashing sound of something heavy falling from above, petrified us both. Turning to the sound after a moment, our eyes locked with someone almost blending in the dark. Holding its stare for a spell, I knew something had to be done. Halfway up the stairs, it was obviously trying to sneak past us both–but why? That question had to be answered.
