Chapter 29: His Truth

Luci’s POV:

I heard the chair I was sitting in a second before crash to the ground as I weaved through the tables in between Gavin and me.

I could feel the eyes of the other patrons looking at what was going on and their hushed murmurs of concern pricked at my ears.

“Is he ok?”

“Did something happen?”

I shoved past Alex who had tried to block me with an arm he had placed low to catch my waist. Even as his hand tried to lock in around me, I shoved him with enough force that I could have knocked him to the floor.

There was a small waist-high door before you got behind the counter. I probably could have jumped it, but I found the latch and pushed my way through it.

I saw Gavin crouched down behind the counter, cradling his arm as the lone coworker rushed over to check on him. Coffee pooled and dripped down the edge of the counter and onto the floor splattering hot droplets in the process.

“Gavin, are you ok?” I heard her ask in a shaky voice.
