Chapter 12: Expectations

Luci’s POV:

My palms grew sweaty as I held my buzzing phone in my hand.

Sure I had ducked this conversation with my father for a few hours, but did I really have to answer the phone now?

I felt a pressure pressing down on me from some invisible force. Even if I couldn’t see it, I could feel it.

“You should probably get that.” Gavin’s words were smooth and as soon as I heard them my chest began to hurt less.

I nodded and pointed up ahead and turned my hand toward the left. “Follow this path and go into the building right before the humanities building. There’s a small café in the front where you can grab a drink.”

Gavin stepped in front of me and leaned to the side so he could look at my face. His bangs parted and revealed his slender nose along with the dark frames of his glasses.

“Want me to wait for you there?” he asked.

The buzzing stopped, but I knew it would only be for a fraction of a second. The calls weren’t going to cease until I answered.
