Welcome to River Valley High

Sunny mornings, beautiful aren't they? Waking up, getting dressed and going to school, just like every day. I walked to my school, River Valley High, an old brick building with ancient rusty windows. The school was smaller and in worse condition than most schools in Kyoto, but people still expect us to be able to learn in this condition. Average school for average me, walking on an average day. I got to school with my novel in my hand, not looking up to see the world around me. I reached to grab my shoes and I got to class. I sat down on my tidy wooden desk, where I continued reading silently. The noise of life going on around me was annoying. I wanted the class to end so I could go home but I guess it's for the best. Every time, mother says school is where you learn to get into a good college and get a job. I don't mind school. It's the people here that make school so dreadfully boring. Every teacher, student and staff here are the same. Except for one person, one true human being, Shunichi, my best friend. The only person I like and the only reason why I'm here. I was lucky to be in his class again. Unfortunately for me, he's fashionably late as always. It's fine though, at least I get to see him today. Shunichi is the only person I care about in this old school. Without him I'm bored and alone. Everything around me is boring and annoying but when he's around everything is better. I can't go on without him. Suddenly the class door jerked open and a tall boy stepped inside the room with a big smile on his glowing face. He got in his seat and looked over to me with his beautiful green eyes. He started off the conversation and I replied to everything with a blank face, but inside he knew I was happy too. Suddenly I heard something from the hallway. Footsteps. Before I knew it, a tall slender man stood at the doorway. This teacher was tall with ink black hair. His eyes were a dark brown that you could lose yourself in. A quick look around the room and you could see most of the girls already fell for him. Some guys were happy to have gotten a male teacher.

"Hello everyone!" said the man "I'm Aren Sato, but you can call me Sato-sensei! I'll be your homeroom teacher this year. I like baseball and teaching. I hope we can have a productive semester!"

Sato-sensei read the list of names of all the boys and girls here and called them one by one, with a joyous, energetic tone like he was enjoying himself. The students spoke and exchanged messages, all discussing about amazing the new teacher.

Everyone was happy. Except my Shun. He looked at the teacher with despair. I couldn't bear to see Shun like this.

"What's wrong Shun?"

"It's nothing," he said in a whisper "He reminds me of someone I never want to see again"

After class, I went to get my lunch. Before leaving the room, I saw some girls stay back to get help from the teacher. He was so happy to help, and even promised to some boys to play baseball with them during recess after he went for a break. The teacher went up to the school roof by himself. He came to enjoy a quick smoke. He started to smoke his old branded cigarette. He didn't notice me at all. I silently ate my crappy lunch, until the idea hit me.
