The vibe at the table got heavy real quick. Scarlett lowered her head, her eyes starting to blur.
Asher didn't say anything else, just ate his meal in silence. When he finally finished and put down his utensils, he casually remarked, "Didn't you say you wanted to leave all this behind? Just stick with me, isn't that enough?"
Scarlett suddenly looked up, "But they're my parents, Ash. They brought me into this world, raised me. How can I just forget about them?"
He didn't say another word, got up to call someone to clear the table, and stood by the French windows like it was no big deal, staring out at the distant blue sea with deep, brooding eyes.
