I finally make it to our house, yes, we are wolves that live in the forest, but that doesn't mean we don't have standards.
I hear Mya's voice as soon as I open the door, "Teach me another Mama! Please?"
I can see her in the living room with mother, they have the spell book out on the wooden table. Mother was sitting on the dark grey couch smiling at Mya as she is jumping with a newly turned gemstone in her hand.
I walk towards them, Mya notices I am back within seconds, "Stella! You are finally home! You have been gone for hours!" She runs towards me; the impact almost makes me fall back.
"You smell like dirt, were you out in the forest again? I think that is where Papa went to find you, why didn't you tell someone you left? And why do you look so sad? Were you crying? Your eyes are red and puffy, I think you were. Why were you crying?" Mya hit me with a heavy load of questions all at once.
"I wasn't crying, I hit a branch and it scratched my eyes, I was looking for more stones for your spells." I glance at Mother for a second, she gives a slight nod and I feel small rocks in my jacket pocket.
I put my hand in the pocket to grab them and reach over the Mya, she opens her palms as I drop the rocks into her hands.
"Wow! These are beautiful! Thanks Sissy!" She tries to give me a hug before walking back to the living room.

Mya is 12, which means she is in her prime stages of learning magic. Mother has been teaching her 5-10 spells a day, and she can't get enough. We first learned she was full witch when she was 10 and accidentally made a squirrel purple.
Witches begin to develop their powers around that age and it is often the beginning of 5 years of learning about your power. It is the best age for us to learn and develop.
Vampires and wolves are different, they have their abilities when they are born, but similar to witches, they become stronger at 10.
Most hybrids get most of their power later than the rest. Since they are of two or more species, their body has to figure out both sides instead of one. Hybrids also have different power levels for each side. Some half wolf, witch, may have a lot of power with spells, but may not have a wolf, and still have the hearing and speed.
Half vampire, witch is rare, they tend to have all of both abilities, in some cases they just have less power with spells.
My brother, Asher, does have a wolf, and strong spells, but his body has trouble keeping up with both sometimes, which can be extremely dangerous if he uses both to a high extent.
Hybrids can be powerful, but too much power can be fatal, this was one of the reasons cross breed mating was forbidden, but with the world evolving, so is technology and medicine. This helps us keep them in control and help fatally percentage.

"Hey Baby." Mother isn't far from me. She gives me a sympathetic, knowing look.
She knows I fought with father again.
I turn my face away, so she doesn't see the fury and sadness in my eyes. She cuffs my face and turns my head to face her. I realized she was closer; she gives me a smile.
"I know this is tough Stel, it doesn't matter if you like it or not, this is your destiny."

My mother can see the future, the second ever witch with that ability, and she has some of the strongest spells amongst the other witches.
No matter how much I beg, she won't tell me anything, something about "messing up future events." Or something like that.

I sigh, knowing she is right, because she is never wrong.
There are a few moments of silence before I hear the front door open again. Mother looks up.
"Hey Ash. You're back early." She let's go of my face before walking towards Asher.
I turn to see him standing in the middle of the doorway, his face filled of sorrow, his brown hair a mess.
"What happened?"
He runs his left hand through his hair, he seemed on edge. "I-a group of vamps are coming."
Mother looked just as shocked as I am. She mustn't have seen this, which could mean a variety of things.
"Are they coming to attack?" Mya cuts in, I didn't know she was still in the room. Mother shoes her upstairs.
Asher shrugs.
"Then what's the problem?" Mother rubs her thumb with her index finger.
Asher bites his bottom lip and looks at the wooden floor, his arms crossed, fingers tapping, "One of them isn't a vampire."
"WHAT!?"
Father is standing behind Asher, who jumps in surprise. My breath catches at the tone of his voice, I can tell Mother's does too. Father has never used that tone, I can barely see him behind Ash, but I can tell he is steaming with fury.
"Those vampires are enemies of the packs. We can't let them close to the border!" Father was now inside the house, the door closed, "Why did you not warn the warriors?"
Mother becomes brave and speaks, "Kai, you know he can't control them, I am sure he was about to. He came here, didn't he? He must have come to get Stella." She walks over and rubs his shoulder in an attempt to soothe him.
Mother is right, we have no say on what the vamps do, as long as they don't cross the border.

Vampires and Wolves have been enemies since the dawn of time, there are so many legends and stories on why, but none of them have been proven true.
This makes it hard to figure the real cause, and if there even is one at all. Us wolves have been extremely stubborn when it comes to vampires. Whatever happened, if anything did, must have been bad if wolves were to accuse Vampires of something.
Wolves tend to be quite peaceful as long as we are not messed with.
Father has always been extremely hostile when it comes to vampires, no matter how many times they come to make peace and propose Treaties. He says it was the way his Father had dealt with them when he was younger and said that was how he was going to do it.
