Chapter 1

Introduction

I was called to the manager's office with four others.As we sat in silence wondering why we had been called,The manager walked in beaming with smiles.Wow!I'm so tensed and the person who made me feel that way walked in with such countenance .He sat down,his PA handed him five brown envelopes.What could be in there? I wondered,Was I going to get fired?,Was he happy that he was going to relieve someone of her job after all the efforts I've put into this firm?.

The manager excused his PA as he turned to address us,"As you know ,we had just celebrated our Crystal anniversary, fifteen years in business",he said,"We announced last week Saturday that five exceptional workers stood out amongst all and had been assigned to work at our Headquarters in Banana Island " he added.Last week Saturday was fifteenth year in business,It was exciting and what caught people's interest was the promotion they gave each year to certain people .The names are withheld and the next week, the set who got the promotion are called."Was I going to be among",I thought,I can't have my hopes up yet cause some lose their jobs the next week.The manager looked at us,I was perplexed and he said "Five of you have been called by the higher ups and you are to resume work next week Monday, accomodation and welfare has been taken care of,you should be prepared Friday, on Saturday,you will meet here to be taken,try as much as possible to be prompt.First impression matters".With that he dispersed us.I was excited , excitement was too small a word to express my mood at that moment.I called my mom to share the good news.

Let me properly introduce myself,I am Alexia Tunde also called Lexxie and I am the third child of a family of six.Born into an inter tribal and middle class home that was able to meet up with basic needs .My dad is a Yoruba man who hails from Ogun state,he is a manager in a small furniture making company while my mum is from Delta state,she owns a small store where she sells thrift clothes aka okrika for children.My elder brother,Matthew is currently based in Port Harcourt,he works for a petroleum company ,my elder sister, Sarah is happily married and lives in Abuja with her family, then the last born,Jordan a student of biochemistry in the prestigious university of Lagos .Well I am a graduate of Philosophy,I couldn't find a job that fitted my practice so I delved into the world of interior decorating,I work for an interior decorating firm called Gem's world and here we are three years from that time .
