Chapter 77

I stand from the table, furious!

How dare he think I am some child who needs to be looked after?! "No! That's not fair! I need to go with you! They are my parents, Ryder!"

"You're right!" Ryder says, turning entirely to me. "They are your parents, and I'll be able to do my job more effectively if you're safe. I promise I'll do everything to get them back safely from Max. However, I can't do my job if I'm trying to protect you also, Sam."

I seethe and throw my hands in the air, throwing myself down onto the chair! I am livid! He needs to stop acting like I'm fragile.

Ryder then takes a case of bullets out of his suitcase. My mouth drops when I realize what he just said. I quickly stand!

"Wait! What do you mean by getting them back safely from Max? We're supposed to pick them up."

What is going on?! What is he not telling me?
