Assassin

"Ooooohh! Look at that! I've never seen anything like it before!" she pointed at the garden below.

From what I could see from here above, she's pointing at the small sparkling greenish yellow lights floating around the garden.

There were some fireflies. They usually appear around this time of the night, though I don't know the specifics. It appears really magical especially in a nice landscaped garden.

I remember the first time I saw them, it gave me inspiration on a specialized magic I was working on.

"What are those things called?" with a glimmer in her eyes the princess pointed at them.

Despite being under royal education by her tutors, she's still really young. There are countless things she didn't knew about.

"It's called fireflies. They emitt light during the night time." I said and put my left hand on my chest gently then offered my right hand.

"Your majesty, would you be interested in looking at them closely?" I'm basically offering myself to escort her according to the Asuran social etiquette.

"Really? Can I?"

I agreed with a nod

"Then I shall accept!" She laid her hands to me.

Together we went to the garden hand in hand.

I gave the little princess a tour around and she was looking around curiously.

According to her, the Imperial Palace also had gardens like this. This was her first time seeing other than the gardens there.

After a while we stopped under a big tree in the center of the garden. In here the fireflies were the most abundant.

The yellow green glow from these little creatures made the little princess giggle. She looked really cute.

"Oh, I forgot!" she looked at me as if she just remembered something. "What's your name?"

I shrugged my shoulders and gave a carefree looking smile, "Leonard Boreas Greyrat. You can just call me Leo."

"Leo? Got it. You can also call me Ariel." she nonchalantly said.

"I can't possibly do that, your majesty..." I muttered, but before I finished she already turned to observe a firefly that landed on a flower.

She's really carefree. It's good to be a child without worries. Soon this little girl would fight for the throne with the crown prince.

Thinking about the future made me excited. I wonder if my fate could change the original plot? I really doubt it unless I encounter the main characters.

Suddenly I felt really uneasy...

Then a glint appeared in the shadows.

Before I could think, I reflexively moved beside the little princess.

"Your majesty, watch out!" I grabbed her wrist and pulled her towards me.

A dagger went past through the place where the little princess was before initially before ai pulled her.

Raising my small hands, I pointed at the direction where it came from. I channeled Mana into my hands and a small spark of fire appeared.

It launched directly in the blink of an eye.

"GUARDS!!! ASSASSINS!" I raised my voice as loud as I can and it echoed through the entire estate using magic.

I quickly grabbed the little princess to run away.

"Shit! We're screwed!"

"Hurry up and chase after them, they're just kids!"

"Ahh damn hell, was that magic?!"

I could hear their voices behind me.

Fighting a trained assassin with the little ol me is foolish. Not to mention that I have someone to protect.

It would take for a while before the guards could respond. So I could only choose to run away.

"Hurry up your majesty, we have to escape." I said.

"What's happening? Why are we running?" the little princess clearly looked terrified. I guessed she's never encountered assassination attempts before this.

"There are some bad people that entered the mansion. We should hurry."

After a while, I manage to enter a stable. It is full of horses, and the air stinks of horse shit. The little princess scrunched up her nose from the smell.

I used wind magic to ventilate the area, though it's only a temporary measure.

"Let's first hide here."

I buried myself on a stack of hay and pulled the princess.

"But-"

I quickly covered her mouth and pulled her to bury ourselves at the hay.

"*Mhmmm*"

"Ssshhhhh..."

The little princess calmed down for a while, but I didn't remove my hands in her mouth.

If it was a usual situation, I could have my head rolled on the ground for treason for violent physical contact with her.

I could hear footsteps. It must be one of the assassins that chased after us. His shadow cast behind the moonlight into the interior of the stable.

"Hey you little chumps, why don't you show yourselves now? I know yer hiding here. Don't ya think of getting out here alive hehehe." the assassin said with a gruffy old voice. It sounded sinister.

"*hHnnghmmnh!!*" the little princess wanted to scream in horror, but she was unable to escape the grasp on her mouth.

"Don't you worry. I won't be killing you immediately. I could sell both of you off to some nobles that loved little children hehehehehe..."

The little princess was trembling in fear. There are tears dropping down her eyes. If it wasn't for me holding her down, she would have exposed ourselves and gotten ourselves killed.

However something unexpected happened.

"*hnnnnhhhh*"

The little princess just suddenly stopped trembling. Then, a unique smell entered my nose. I also felt a warm wetness from my legs. When I take a look where it came from, there was a liquid on the ground out of the little princess dress.

In short, she pissed herself.

I was so shocked to the sudden development that I subconsciously loosen the grasp on her mouth.

"Aaaahhh~" and then she released a sweet moan.
