Chapter 12

Two days later after registering as a guild member, the traveler sat on his bed, writing down some details in his journal. He was thinking of ways to stop his ability, a way for him to stop using his ability every time he goes to sleep. Yet after three attempts, he still couldn't do it.

If he did not have anything in mind while he was in his dream state, a random memory would pop up. He could choose not to alter it but it seems that it would do so on its own if he doesn't. He had been trying to alter memories that did not have anything to do with humans as he did not want to do something that might affect reality by much.

However, he could not figure out how to do that. As time passed, he thought that he should attempt to draw something in his journal, something new on every page and he would do so until the fifth page. Since he could alter five memories, he would simply alter the five drawings in his journal.

Putting his journal away and getting ready to leave, he figured that it was the best solution as he still can't control his power. The traveler fixed his cloak and left the room. He went downstairs, to the entrance lobby of the inn.

When he did, he immediately went to the lady behind the counter and asked for some food. It didn't take a while before he was finished eating and at exactly nine o'clock, the traveler left the inn.

He was heading towards Augustus' Blacksmith shop to pick up his claymore. Thankfully he had written the direction he needed to take to go there so with not much hassle, he successfully arrived at the shop.

He felt as if it was a huge success although the shop was just a couple of meters away from the inn and all he needed to do was walk forward...

The traveler entered the shop, he saw the same old man behind the same old counter. "Welcome dear customer, looking for the best tool that can help you in your everyday life? You've come to the right place! Or if you're looking for the best weapons in town-", The old man stopped, "Oh, It's you."

The traveler nodded, "Good morning! I'm here to-"

Before he finished his sentence, the old man took something out from the cabinet below the counter and presented it to the traveler. Cassius saw the familiar sheath and hilt. It was Gilmore.

"I just did simple repairs, five silver alvas is fine." The old man said, "What? Are you gonna complain about the price? Isn't it cheap? You young people these days are..."

The traveler interrupted the old man, "I don't want to be rude by interrupting you but I assure you, I admire your work and the price of five silver alvas is acceptable! Truly you do have affordable prices!"

The old man who had a strict and harsh face finally showed a smile. "Ah! Someone who does not cry and whine like a little brat! I would have said that I liked you if only you aren't the acquaintance of that Caesar..."

The traveler who placed the right amount in front of the old man flinched, "Hm? What do you mean by that, mister?"

The old man, taking the five silver alvas, said, "You don't know? That brat is too much of a pushover. He's a wimp who does nothing but tuck his tail in between his legs and play the victim every time."

The traveler fell in his thoughts, Caesar did seem like a coward but he was confused as to why the old man looked as if he resented him by a lot. The old man continued, "I see that you're new here. I advise you to stay away from Caesar, at first glance he looks innocent but I guarantee you, he isn't as good as you think."

The traveler nodded his head and took his sword. "Thank you for the advice, I'll keep it in mind." Though he met the old man later than Caesar, he seemed more trustworthy than the latter.

The traveler didn't say anything else, he walked out of the shop while carrying his sword. To him, Caesar was an interesting person and he did not doubt a single word that the old man had said. Though he believed that Caesar was a coward, he got out of the Dark forest village alive.

As the traveler was walking, he remembered the old man's words, "I advise you to stay away from Caesar, at first glance he looks innocent but I guarantee you, he isn't as good as you think."

He had never thought that Caesar was someone naive and innocent. He was a coward, yes, but to him, Caesar was clever. Three days earlier, back when he met Caesar again... he had done something to the traveler and Cassius was aware of it.

After they met the blacksmith, left the shop, and talked, Caesar attempted to do it again. He even ran away after he tried, pretending that he didn't do anything. Afterward, Caesar never showed himself again to the traveler.

The traveler was sure that Caesar was a witch or rather, a wizard. His story about his first love... It didn't completely make sense. If he went to the village where she was from and confirmed that she was a witch, he wouldn't have made it out alive.

Witches and wizards... They were people who are believed to be worshippers of the devil. If wielders are the blessed of the Gods, then witches and wizards were the spawn of the devil.

Wielders would possess powers and it happens suddenly. One day a man would wake up only to realize something was different and he had acquired powers. But for witches, it was different. It can be said that they awaken forcefully.

As for how to tell the difference... It was simple. Wielders were much more powerful than witches and wizards as their powers are complete while on the other hand, the power witches hold was incomplete. What's more, is that their powers aren't unique to them. If a witch has levitation powers, the other could have the same.

Witches copied the powers of wielders but since they aren't wielders themselves, they can't use them how wielders do. They can't copy every wielder power there is so if they wanted to grow their forces, they would need to forcefully awaken their brethren using the same method they used to awaken and so their underlings will have the same power.

The traveler has always been strong against mental attacks so when Caesar tried attacking him, he easily defended it. In short, Caesar was a wizard who uses mental manipulation and tried to manipulate him but little did he know was that the traveler was a wielder. Thus, even after two attempts, Caesar's attack was futile.

The traveler had often encountered witches as he traveled and he could tell the difference between a wielder and a witch. Ceasar's attack was weak against him but if he were a normal human, it would have worked well.

As for why the man tried to manipulate him, the traveler had no idea. Caesar was someone who gave him gold alvas so he did not resent him but if he were to do something again, the traveler would not let it go.

The traveler stopped walking and instead headed in the opposite direction. He was heading towards the inn earlier but he changed his mind and went to the guild instead. He would ask if there was a mission he could do, he wanted to see what the rewards would be.

Chimera wasn't with him but the raven has never left his side, not even once. The raven was strange and it was no ordinary bird. Instead of flying above like it usually does, the bird decided to land on the traveler's shoulder. Cassius didn't seem to mind and acted as if it was a normal occurrence.

Not long after, the traveler arrived at the guild. Without any hesitation, he entered the building. However, this time, he saw a group of people seated on the left side of the lobby. Instead of the usual green robe, they wore a red robe with the silver tiger logo.

The traveler didn't wear any badge or the logo and so the people thought he was a client and ignored him. The traveler ignored them as well as he did not come for them. He approached the woman behind the counter and smiled politely.

The lady smiled in return, "So newcomer, what brings you here?" She was speaking assault this time.

The traveler shrugged, "I was bored so I wanted to see if there are missions available. Are there any?"

"My name's Lila by the way," She said, "So, there are some but most are long-term and I doubt you'd stay here for a long time so I suggest this one... Killing the witches in the northern forest. This forest is close to this city so they are a threat."

"Reward?"

"It's not much but fifteen thousand guild points, a gold alvas, and ten guild rank points. Oh right," Lila began to explain, "I forgot to tell you about the guild rank points. They are necessary to increase your lever since you are in fourth, you will need five hundred guild rank points to step into the fifth level."

Before she could say anything more, someone with a red robe approached them. He was quite young, perhaps not older than twenty. "So you are a newcomer. Welcome, I guess. Since Lila said you are in the fourth level, you must be a wielder. If not then you must be someone who got up there using your grandma's money or something."

Lila's smile became awkward, "Um, he's Felix, a fifth-level member. Don't mind his rudeness, he's just sensitive when it comes to people in power." She turned to Felix, "He is a wielder, Cassius is his name, not someone who got carried by their family's power."

The traveler was taller than Felix by a foot, the latter had quite the feminine face. "I'm glad you aren't someone who uses their grandma who's in power to attain a higher rank then."

The traveler didn't like the way Felix was talking. He understood that he hated those above but to speak like this... He sounded so disrespectful. "Why grandma specifically?"

Felix scoffed, "You're still too weak, you don't deserve to know." The youth was in a bad mood, his decisions seemed to be affected by his emotions.

At that moment, the scene was replayed in the traveler's mind. "You're still too weak, you don't deserve to know." Said the young Felix. Then, the memory was changed... After saying those words, Felix's mouth began to suddenly disappear.

The traveler merely imagined for that to happen but as if the world was in his palm, Felix's mouth, the real one, began to actually disappear.

Cassius was in shock, he secretly tried to wake himself up, afraid that he might still be in a dream. Did he just use his power while he was awake? The traveler started to feel fearful of his own self...

"AHHHHH!" Lila screamed, attracting the attention of the people with red robes. They were already paying attention from the moment their friend Felix stood up from his seat but since Felix has his back turned, they couldn't see what was wrong.

The men hurriedly went to where Felix was and checked if he was alright. The youth was in too much shock that it was too late when he realized. Upon realization, he immediately tried to attack the traveler but was stopped by his colleagues.

The traveler didn't know how to respond... He officially acknowledged that his power was terrifying. He couldn't possibly let anyone know about it and he promised himself that he wouldn't overuse it. The traveler then began to ponder how to redo what he had done.
