Chapter 53: The Third Kind of Contact (Part 2)
Dino was now extremely excited.
He looked at the Zerg army outside the helicopter, so thrilled that he could barely hold onto his microphone. This is my chance!
Gripping the microphone tightly, Dino silently vowed that this time he would make big news. While his peers only dared to sneakily film small bits from the outside, he knew that wasn't enough. He, BBC special correspondent Dino Quick, was about to have a face-to-face interaction with these mysterious alien creatures that had suddenly appeared!
And it was going to be a global broadcast!
"Bart, take us down a bit!"
"Are you crazy? You really want to go into the lair of those monsters? They might attack us!"
The helicopter pilot, Bart, exclaimed in surprise at Dino's command, but Dino just waved him off. "That's why I hired you, Bart. You're the best, and I know you can do it! Don't worry, those aliens won't attack us. They are friends of humanity!"
Dino was among those humans who believed the Zerg were friends of humanity. That's why he dared to venture into Zerg territory and even fly towards their nest. Dino thought that since these alien Zerg had come to help humanity, he, as a human, should welcome these extraterrestrial guests.
Dino could already imagine the impact of his on-camera, global live broadcast interaction with these aliens! He would become a hero in human history, a bridge between humans and alien beings!
As for the military blockade, Dino thought it was completely unnecessary. Those soldiers only knew how to fight wars; they didn't understand the value of peace. Humanity was a civilized species and couldn't treat alien guests so barbarically.
Especially the news censorship—it was utterly stupid! Everyone had the right to know about this. They couldn't lock it all away! It wasn't fair! As a journalist, he had to defend the freedom of the press, even at the cost of his life.
Seeing the various Zerg structures in the city, Dino was extremely excited. The Zerg had very efficiently set up their base, rapidly expanding and exploiting resources underground.
Taking a deep breath, Dino turned to the camera, signaling the cameraman. Soon, the camera turned on, its red light changing to green, and Dino began to speak quickly.
"Dear viewers, welcome to this special broadcast. I am Dino Quick, host of BBC One. I am now leading my team to the location of the alien creatures. As you can see, we are already above their location. Look, these aliens are welcoming us!"
As he spoke, Dino gestured downward. The cameraman, sweating nervously, felt that the fearsome creatures on the ground, baring their fangs, seemed more like they were seeing him as food.
"Dear viewers, next we will..."
But before Dino could finish, a roar suddenly rang out. To their shock, a huge creature took off and flew towards their helicopter!
"Quick, get us out of here!"
Admittedly, the Zerg didn't look very appealing, and the Corruptor was no exception. Its huge head, sharp mouth, writhing tentacles, and eerie coloration made it look like a monster straight out of hell. Upon seeing the Corruptor, the pilot Bart immediately wanted to retreat.
"No, we have to ascend! It's coming at us! It's extending those damn tentacles, oh no! It has us!"
"Relax, Bart, they're just welcoming us! Don't overreact, oh... damn it!"
But the pilot wasn't listening to Dino. He was terrified by the approaching Corruptor, frantically maneuvering the helicopter to escape.
Dino, unable to speak any further, clung desperately to the nearby lever to avoid being thrown out. Internally cursing the pilot for his lack of composure, Dino could only pray that he wouldn't fall to his death.
But what happened next nearly made them lose their minds with fear!
The Corruptor suddenly opened its mouth and sprayed a strange liquid onto the helicopter. The helicopter's exterior began to soften quickly, as if it were being doused with hot water, appearing to melt.
The once rapidly spinning rotor blades now drooped like noodles. The Corruptor then extended its tentacles, grabbed the helicopter, and began to fly away with it.
"Oh my God, they're going to eat us! They're going to eat us!"
"Uh, dear viewers, it seems we've encountered a slight mishap, but this shouldn't be too much of a problem..."
Even Dino's expression turned grim. Although he still believed the aliens were friendly, the Corruptor's spit had him worried. He was now concerned that the pilot's earlier actions might have made these aliens think they came with hostile intentions. If that were the case, it would be very bad!
However, the Corruptor didn't take them to the center of some Zerg nest, nor did it eat them. Instead, it carried the corroded helicopter to the edge of the area and dropped it with a "thud" in front of Wang Dong and his team.
"What is this..."
Seeing the Corruptor approach, Wang Dong and the others were on high alert. But as it dropped the damaged helicopter in front of them, they were left unsure of how to react. Before they could say anything, a voice suddenly echoed in everyone's minds.
"Do not disturb us, humans!"
Accompanying the voice, a creature with the upper body of a human female and the lower body of a deer emerged from nearby. Around it, a swarm of Zerglings stared menacingly at the humans, clearly exuding a threatening aura.
"We are representatives from the United Command!"
Seeing Miruune appear, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. They had been worried about whether they could communicate with these terrifying alien creatures. It now seemed possible. The bespectacled woman stepped forward quickly, spreading her hands in a harmless gesture.
"We just want to communicate with you..."
"But I have no interest in you."
Miruune glanced disdainfully at the human woman. Honestly, if not for Alex's order not to harm humans, she would have already fed these people to the Zerglings.
No, these weak and useless creatures weren't even worth consuming. According to the Zerg's laws, such beings with no value for assimilation should be destroyed immediately to maintain the purity of the gene pool.
However, the persistence of this human annoyed Miruune. These fragile life forms should be trembling before the Zerg's power, yet they dared to negotiate.
This angered her. Remembering Alex's order to send the humans away "unharmed" and avoid contact, Miruune realized she might need to use some other methods.
"We just hope to understand each other better. We mean no harm!"
Sensing Miruune's displeasure, the bespectacled woman became more anxious. She assumed the alien's anger was due to the journalist's intrusion into their territory, which was understandable. Any creature with a strong sense of territory would be upset by such actions.
"Understand each other?"
Hearing this, Miruune blinked and suddenly thought of a good idea.
"Then let me show you what you are truly facing!"
Before anyone could react, the creature's eyes emitted a dazzling light. The next moment, they felt excruciating pain in their heads, as if their brains were about to explode. Then, visions began to appear in their minds.
These were the Zerg.
In the visions, the humans saw the Zerg's development process. They witnessed the Zerg conquering planet after planet, consuming and assimilating every powerful species they encountered, growing stronger and more terrifying. For the Zerg, consumption and evolution were their eternal pursuits. Everything else was meaningless to them!
The visions disappeared as quickly as they came, but everyone was left drenched in sweat. The bespectacled woman was pale and trembling, collapsing to the ground, unable to speak.
"Leave this place, humans."
Miruune, satisfied with their reactions, nodded. This was the proper attitude of an inferior race, not the arrogance of thinking they could negotiate with the Zerg.
"We have no interest in you."
