A/N:Lily Potter deserves more credit.
I was swamped for the next few weeks with work, work and work.
Classes in the day, then training of runes with Salazar and then on weekends training Harry, Notts and Millicent and a completely underdeserving of my tutelage, Weasley.
Usually i would go take holidays on the days following a full moon and spend time with Lupin and take care of him, who would often tell me about his adventures in Hogwarts along with his friends, apparently the one who showed him Star Wars was Harry's mother Lily Potter, she made him and rest of the Marauders, group of Lupin's friend, watch the whole Star Wars trilogy. Even he was shocked to knnow that Harry had not seen Star Wars and how different was he when compared to LIly who was a walking enclyopedia of Pop culture reference. Lupin said I would have liked her, she was a brilliant muggleborn who looked at things from a muggle perspective much like me.
Speaking of Lily Potter, Harry came through with his promise, apparently Gringotts were holding on to all the properties of Potter estate until Harry came of age.
You know how it takes a genuis to know a genuis, Lily Potter was a GENUIS with capital all along the way, she was pretty much going in the same direction as me, Runes. She had books, advanced books on the subjects some of which I hadn't even heard names of. Salazar infered that since Potter's was an old house they must have had old books kept with them which in turn allowed Lily's mastery of the subject. But even so after lookng at her notes, I couldn't help being impressed, she was way further ahead of me and she was learning all of it without any teacher or guide, just absorbing knowledge from the books like a sponge, atleast I had Salazar to point out my mistake whenever i made one. She didn't have anyone, must have been such a chore to literally try to find the cause of the problem when you had no idea what causes it.
"I think i understand what she did" said Salazar after i showed him notes of some of the advance stuff Lily Potter's diary had.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"The way she ensured the survival of her son, Mark my words Blake, nobody survives the Killing curse, if it is casted with the intention to kill then it will kill and you wouldn't even feel a thing , or your body won't, it targets the soul of the person, you won't scream the moment you are hit with it, but the feeling you will get would be so worse that you can't even imagine." Salazar said.
"But to make such a sacrifice? Clearly only a mother can do so." Salazar said with respect.
"What did she do??" I asked clearly intrigued.
"She used a Tranference rune, as a base, transference rune doesn't do much but transfer stuff from one person to another, it was used in early days to transfer illness from one person to another, willingly or unwillingly didn't matter."Salazar said coughing.
"She modified it, in a way that the killing curse that was fired at Harry didn't even touch him at all, it retributed back to her. But that in itself isn't that praiseworthy, whats praiseworthy is the sacrifice she made, Tranference rune doesn't only transfer the illness from one person to another, it amplifies it, sometimes ten, twenty or hundred times, depends on luck, I have seen people die when a simple tranference rune was used to just transfer a cut on the body. I really can't imagine the type of pain that she would have felt when a curse like the killing curse amplified would have hit her. And looking at her notes I am pretty sure she herself knew pretty well the pain and the cpnsequence of her action."Salazar said sighinhg
"She deserves to be callled a Mother, it's easy to breed but to give life for someone else takes a lot of courage, This Lily Potter has my respect." Salazar said.
"But what about Voldermort? The rune protected Harry but how did it destroyed Voldermort?" I asked,.
"That i have no idea, maybe she did some modififcation to the rune. you need to look more into her notes and then maybe find the reason."
{IN Snape's Laboratory}
"May i come in professor?" I asked while knocking on his door.
"Come in." came a low voice.
"Yes, Mr Rivers?" said Snape disinterested while focussing on his Potion.
"MAlaking Wolf's bane sir?" I asked.
Snape looked up and stared me in the eye.
"Yes, Atleast my expectations of someone being smart enough were not illfounded." Snape said while going back on his potion.
"So what are you here for? To get points for figuring it out or to brag about it?" Snape said.
"Neither sir, I was hoping you can teach me how to brew Wolf'sbane. Please" I said while finding a stool and sitting on it.
"Any tell me Mr. Rivers why should i waste my precious time and energy on teaching a third year student a potion that is not even in his course?" Snape asked standing straight now with no focus on the Potions.
"Cause i said 'Please'?" I said giving my best smile.
"And I know you don' t like Professor Lupin, so teaching me at start might take some time but overtime I can take over the potion's creation giving you time to pursue whichever Hobby you have."
"You know i can't give preferrential treatment to any one student." Snape said.
"UMM, YEs" I said, where is he going with this.
"Good, Detentions every night with me from now on." Snape said with a evil smile.
"Oh Professor." I said throwing my hands in the air.
"And Mr. Rivers" he said poiting at the cauldron, "Time to clean up the mess your classmates make, though its way less now that Longbottom can handle himself."
That is how i spent next 2 hours cleaning the cauldrons.
