Chapter 35- Badge of Honor

Medical Building, Year 20XX

Xu Li calmed himself after almost an hour of crying. Still, overwhelmed by his emotion, he borrowed his head in his mother's chest while trying to remember the unique scent coming from his mom.

Glancing at his mother, who is now silently wiping her tears, he released a sigh of relief. He is glad that what he had witnessed in the morning was untrue and his father did not actually cheat on his mom! As a matter of fact, the woman he was so angry about is his mother! Realizing how silly he was, Xu Li could not help but giggle which make Vera curious about what the boy is thinking.

"Mommy, I really missed you. I am pleased that you are back" he said.

"Me too, love. Mommy is sorry for not being with you all this time, but don't worry anymore since I am here now. I will be with you and your dad from now on."

"You know what? I was angry with daddy today. I thought he cheated on you with another woman." The boy pouted his lip and crossed his arm to show how upset he really was.

Vera, seeing her son's expression is more intrigue. "Why would you think that? Your father will never cheat on me. Come closer, and I will tell you a secret." She encouraged.

His eyes brighten, hearing the word secret. "What mommy?

"Your dad will never cheat on mommy in this lifetime. You know why? Because daddy has been in love with mommy since he was young!" Vera assured the boy.

"Besides, why would you think that?"

Xu Li didn't want to tell his mom that he was spying on them today but couldn't lie as well, so he tells the truth.

"I was watching you and daddy from that room over there". He said while pointing to the guest room on the opposite side. He was startled when his mother laughs suddenly.

"So, it was you who is spying on me." Please, Vera smiled amusingly and touched his son's nose gently. "You're a cheeky monkey, aren't you?" Vera teased him when she noticed that he feel uncomfortable confessing about his scheme today.

Xu Li fell guilty but at the same time glad that he did what he did. Otherwise, he will never know that his mom is living close to him.

"Why are you hiding in this place, mommy?" Suddenly remembering what the other staff was talking about, Xu Li panic.

"Are you sick, mommy? Is it bad?" He asked frantically while noting the scar in his mom's arms. He couldn't help but to carefully touch it. Studying his mother's arm intently, he finds out that the healed wounds travels until his mom's shoulder and stops only because it is hidden by the clothes she's wearing. He is scared to know if these ugly looking scars cover his mothers' body.

Vera could see that Xu Li is looking at her arms with a complicated expression. "are you scared about this? She asked while pointing at her scarred skin. She is hoping he would accept her, including her ugly appearance.

"of course not, mommy. I am only curious about the reasons for you to have them. I can't deny, I was scared, but if you get them in order to come back to us, then I should be proud of your return mommy.

For me, they look like a badge of honor. They are the reflection of your strong will to survive, like real soldiers. They get a medal after surviving a war, in our case, daddy and I are your rewards" Xu Li explained with a hint of pride in his voice. He took Vera's arm and lightly kissed her scarred arm.

"You are absolutely right love. Mommy had them to be with you and daddy. They show how harsh the battle I have to survive to come home." She said and turned her back to conceal her tears.

She is not an emotional person, but his words affected her deeply. Like what he said, she never looks at herself poorly just because her perfect skin is now ruin. Instead, she felt gratitude for having them.

Meanwhile, In Xu holdings, XU Long Wei was listening to his secretary when he felt his phone vibrate. Without any visible expression, he checked it and read his message.

Vera: "Our son sneaked in my room today. He will be staying with me for dinner."

Xu Long Wei: "I will be there" He replied.

"Boss, what will you do with the mole we found last time? Secretary Yang, not noticing that his boss is occupied.

A few days ago, they found out that there is someone in the company who is selling confidential information to their rivals. Their boss was furious and ordered to investigate everyone. After one week, they discovered that the marketing manager is the culprit.

Xu long Wei's apprehended him and brought to their underground basement to thoroughly questioned, but until now, he wouldn't spill anything and even tried to protect his accomplice. They soon find out that the man is not an ordinary employee. He was planted in their company intentionally.

By who, they still don't know. However, their team will find out sooner or later.

Xu Long Wei diverted his attention from his phone and returned his focus to his secretary.

"Kill him" the man casually replied which is not surprising for Secretary Yang since his boss hates those who betray him. As always, he doesn't need many words to make someone permanently disappear in this world. Secretary Yang felt a chill in his body. His boss is terrifying in times like this.

"Also, cancel my dinner appointment tonight."

"Yes, Boss" He replied and went back to his office. He dialed a number, and after just two rings, a baritone voice answered.

"Boss said to kill the.." he didn't even finish his words when he heard multiple gunshots on the background followed by dead silence. Sighing, he walked back to his table like nothing happened and started cancelling the man's appointment
