3rd POV*
Emperor Caligula is dead! This information caused ruckus throughout the whole city, many people wailed in despair while others cheer for liberation. No matter what the reaction is, the whole city is still in disorder.
It was a day after the Roman Assembly that the Emperor died, the cause of death was trauma that failed his heart. Though the fear-stricken face that the Emperor wore on his death was what bothered most of the people, it was the face of someone who saw the true darkness of the world. A face that someone should not wear no matter what the occasion.
With the death of the Emperor, the seat is now empty. Many senators and consuls tried to take the position however the fact that there are still Royal blood out there stopped them. It was then decided that Agrippina the Younger will now return to Rome from exile. The exile command that Emperor Caligula has given to his sister has now broken.
That is why many people are currently lining in the gate of the city as the princess will now return. They are patiently waiting for her presence and miraculously there is no brawl in the area. It seems like they all respected the daughter of the Roman Hero Germanicus. In fact there was some senators who tried to prevent her exile however they all ended up in a same situation, dead.
Flowers are laid on the street to grandly welcome the return. Lucius and Luke are among the crowd also waiting for the said mother of the child. How Luke knew that Agrippina is the mother of Lucius is not great of a mystery. The death of Lady Domitia helped him after all, he spent months of studying everything in the politic world of Rome.
"Are you pleased to be seeing your mother again?" Luke asked staring at the child who was pouting. "Umu? No father! I don't need someone like that in my life! I am rather content with our current lifestyle" Lucius said tightly gripping the hand of Luke. Luke didn't say anything and just smiled at her, he is contemplating whether to turn her into a great Emperor or just stay quiet like this.
"Since that is what you want then I'll just helplessly follow it" he muttered before returning his attention to the gate. The people have already began cheering announcing the arrival of the princess, Luke observed the surroundings finding many ways to break this peaceful scenery in front of him. He is tempted but decided against it.
The luxurious carriage has shown itself to the crowd, the windows were open giving the people honor to gaze upon the beautiful contortions of the princess. Despite being a mother of one, she still looked fresh and there was no wrinkles on her face. She is breathtakingly gorgeous and many men in the area could assure that.
Luke just stared directly at the woman without showing any kind of interest towards her, though as if sensing his gaze, the woman looked at his direction. Luke gave a polite smile however the woman didn't even look away. She just keeps staring at him as if gazing at an alien. The woman broke from her trance and just gave Luke a lovely smile.
Lucius on the side tilted her head seeing the scene, "Father? Are you perhaps interested in mother? I assure you that she is not a good woman!" she reminded Luke hoping that he won't fall to the clutches of that wicked woman. Luke shook his head and smiled at the child, "Is that how you see it? Then you need to study more little one" he said placing his hand on her head.
The welcoming ceremony didn't last long, the carriage carried the princess to the residence of the dead Emperor, her brother to rest. A party will be held later at night so a proper rest is a must.
???
Agrippina the Younger sat down on a comfortable sofa and reminisced about the attractive figure she saw today. Strangely enough she can't seem to get him out of her mind, he has been boggling her ever since she saw that face. She wondered if she can still meet that gentlemen in the future, that would be a fantastic setting for her.
Removing unnecessary thoughts from her head she looked at her loyal censor Silvanus Messalla. A person who informed her all that is happening while she was away. So even while exiled, she is still aware of the events inside the city.
"Silva, how is the child?" Agrippina asked about the most crucial part of her plan, she needs this piece so that everything will be perfect on the board. "Milady, unfortunately Lord Gnaeus died 6 months ago and the child was handed to a pair of liberti, a dancer and a barber" Silvanus said making Agrippina raise her eyebrow. "So…?" she asked.
"It is within your plan milady. Lady Domitia has done her part well" Silvanus said smiling, he is happy that everything is progressing well for his lady. "I suppose I should reward mother-in-law for her efforts, even killing her own son for me, which is worthy" Agrippina didn't reveal a smile and just enjoyed the situation silently.
Hearing that Silvanus seemed to falter a bit and that was noticed by Agrippina. She narrowed her eyes gesturing to explain which he did, "Exactly 3 months after the death of Lord Gnaeus, Lady Domitia died from intense shock" Silvanus said lowering his head, he is ready to receive any kind of punishment for it was also in his priority to take care of Agrippina's mother-in-law.
Agrippina was not fazed by the sudden news of death. Although it was unusual, it was still not out of her expectation. "Still… shock? What did she experience to die in an odd way?" she asked curious about that, this matter is somehow close to what happened to her brother. She wanted to kill brother by herself but since someone did it then she can only be thankful.
"Wait, how about her wealth? Did you manage to retrieve all of them?" Agrippina remembered the crucial part, Domitia's wealth represented her status in the world. She is connected to the trade supplies through whole Rome after all, it cannot be ignored. "About that… she handed everything to her hidden son" Silvanus was uncertain when he spoke this, it was weird even for him.
This made Agrippina even more annoyed, "Surely you must have done your research right? How come there is this fake son appearing out of nowhere? I know Lady Domitia myself and everything about her history. It is impossible for her to have another son" she said narrowing her eyes. Someone dared to take something that is rightfully hers.
"Yes milady, I am 100% certain that the man is not her biological son however it was too late, he moved too fast. All necessary documents were already signed by Lady Domitia and when I tried requesting a trial for it, they rejected it. They mention that I have no connection to Lady Domitia hence no reason to search for it" Silvanus said.
Agrippina thought about it and realized that Silvanus could really do nothing. If he tried to persist on the matter then the others will easily point out that he is still conversing with an exile person. That is equivalent to treason. Understanding this, Agrippina is visibly upset. "Who is it? What is the name of that shrewd person?" she asked wanting to know more so that she could retrieve what is hers.
Silvanus took a second to remember the name, "If I recall… it was Johan Liebert" he said. Agrippina placed that name on her head, she will surely remember it. "Anyway when is Claudius going to meet me?" she changed the topic and proceeded to hit the main point. The only challenger she had in the throne was her uncle, they need to talk about it.
"The meeting is scheduled after the party later milady, Lord Claudius is giving you the time to enjoy yourself or that's what he mentioned" Silvanus reported making Agrippina sneer. "I see, he wanted to solidify his position at the party. It would be detrimental for me since the people will eventually accept him…. How foolish"
She could not help but chuckle at the desperation that Claudius is showing, it is revealing how pathetic he was. "Alright, if that is how he will do his game then I'll play along, that stuttering fool can never rule properly" Agrippina shook her head and gestured to Silvanus to get out. His role has now finished, she needs her time alone.
After Silvanus walked away, Agrippina's imagination returned to that young man earlier. 'I'm already a widow, what's the problem if I take a new lover?' she thought becoming increasingly interested on that young man. What she didn't know is that their fate would collide faster than she thought. That is the story for another chapter.
