Chapter 14 (Final)

-Narrators POV-

The neighborhood was now silent. All that could be heard was the steps of the policemen on the grass making their way to the door. They knocked on the door. There was no response. The officer knocked again.

"We have a warrant to search the house!" The officer shouted. There was no response again.

"If you do not answer the door we will be forced to come inside!" The officer shouted louder this time. Then again, there was no response.

The officer looked at their fellow officers.

The officer then shook the doorknob.

The door was unlocked.

They walked inside and examined the area. No one was present. Then a policewoman started snapping her fingers to get the other's attention.

"Look." She pointed down at the shoes laid messily to the side. One pair was larger than another. It also seemed like the owner didn't leave the house.

The officers marched forward into the house. Until a horrid smell filled their nostrils. It was metallic. The officers looked at each other and nodded their heads. They spread out and searched the house. Groups went to search the closets, upstairs, and kitchen.

The officers couldn't find anything suspicious in the open area of the house. Then the metallic scent grew stronger. Then someone pointed to the right of the kitchen.

"Wait, look." The man pointed to a door. The officers slowly approached it. They cracked it open, not leaving a sound. Then the smell became overwhelming to the point some officers pinched their noses.

"The smell originated from here." The policeman whispered. They carefully opened the door. Each one taking a step at a time to prevent noises.

"Jeez, you don't have to be so quiet. Especially since I already know you're there." A man's voice spoke from the bottom of the stairs. The officers looked at each other before rushing down the stairs with the gun in hand.

"Hands up to where I can see them!" The leader of the group shouted. The 5 officers surrounded Samuel at gunpoint.

Samuel on the other hand had a knife directly on Amai's throat.

"I said hands to where I can see them." The officer shouted again, this time gripping the trigger.

"If I don't? What are you gonna do, shoot me? I'm pretty sure I can swipe this knife against her throat before you shoot." Samuel mocked.

The leader loosened their grip on the trigger. One officer pointed their gun down, slowly approaching Samuel.

"Nah-ah. Don't you move another inch. I'll do it." He pressed the knife against Amai's throat deeper.

The officer stopped in place and stood still like a stone statue.

"Alright, now if you guys don't shoot, she will come out of here unharmed," Samuel said as he slowly moved towards the stairs, the guns aim following him.

The officers observed the girl. Her eyes were shut, her brown hair stuck to her tear-stained face, and she wore a blue dress.

"If you drop the knife, I think we can do this humanly." The officer softened their tone as they spoke.

"Nah, I don't think so." Samuel made a break for it while dragging Amai. He ran outside. But to his misfortune, an officer knocked him down as he exited the house.

He had dropped the knife and Amai. He clutched his nose in pain. The officers behind him apprehended him to the floor. Samuel squirmed and struggled under their weight. He was then handcuffed and taken to one of the prepared police cars.

"You mother fuckers!" He screamed.

"Let me go!" He struggled.

Now the paramedics rushed to Amai's aid. She was placed onto a stretcher and rushed to the hospital, leaving the house as a new crime scene.
