Chapter 17: Had to do!

Izuku looked down at his phone and saw a list of five names and where to find them. He already knew what they looked like and their quirks.

All five had quirks that were completely useless, and with the smallest amount of research found that each man lived alone.

This was not a test of his skill, but of his strength of will.

Izuku paced around his home for hours trying to decide how he would go about this. He couldn't quit now, but could he really kill five men without any question of why?

All for One openly supported Izuku's goals and knew he wouldn't be ok with killing innocents and that such a request would severely damage their relationship. He had to trust that he would keep his request within the limits of Izuku's mission.

In the end he hoped that his trust in Sensei was well placed.

He dressed in his villain outfit and was about to call Kurogiri to bring him there when he hesitated. No, he needed to do this on his own.

So he put on a wig, glasses, and changed into something more casual so he could take public transportation without heroes being called.

He wore a long coat so he could hide the handgun that was hidden in his waistband, since his usual holster was far too obvious.

By the time he stepped off the train near the man's house he was sweating and shaking.

He couldn't do this.

But at the same time he couldn't just not do this. Disobeying All for One was a great way to die young.

He already made his choice. This was the best course of action he had available.

But making a choice and following through are two very different things.

He stood in front of the man's apartment, trying to keep himself steady. He wasn't home. So it should be easy to go inside and wait for the man to come home and kill him then.

Oh God. He was about to kill a stranger.

Everything felt wrong. He knew he'd have to do wrong in order to make the world better, but in practice it felt impossible for this to feel like anything that could lead to a better world.

He wanted to be a sheep in wolf's clothing, a secret good guy among the villains. But he was starting to feel like a wolf in wolf's clothing.

He couldn't do this.

Running away from the house he vomited in the nearest trash can on the side of the street.

It was all too much. He should just give up now. He'd never be able to follow through on his lofty goals, and it would be better to stop before killing 5 random strangers.

As Izuku vomited into the trash bin for a second time he heard it.

-Holy shit is this my lucky day or what? Young, cute, alone, and so drunk he's puking on the sidewalk-

"Hey there kid, are you ok?"

He turned around to see who the pervert was and nearly collapsed when he saw it was his target. Oh right, he was still right outside his house.

"Whoa there, you don't look too good. My house is right there, why don't we head inside and get you cleaned up."

-This has to be the easiest pickings I've ever come across. A drunk kid right outside my house, you'd think it was my birthday-

Izuku started crying tears of joy and relief.

A pedophile and a rapist. He might not have the guts to kill an innocent civilian, but he could stomach killing this trash. Now he just had to do some very easy acting and finish the job.

"Thank you so much mister, I got lost and I just feel really dizzy. I really appreciate your help."

He was worried he was laying it on too thick, but the unrelated tears really sold it as the two of them walked inside.

Izuku did his best to ignore the onslaught of terrible thoughts and images from the man as he found a place to sit down.

"I don't want to be a bother, but could you maybe get me a glass of water?"

"Of course, make yourself comfortable."

As the man turned to the kitchen he reached under his coat and pulled out a black handgun with a silencer. With the few moments he had he did everything he could to focus and brace himself for what came next.

The man returned with a glass of water and a face of pure shock when he saw the weapon.

Izuku was starting to think that -HOLY SHIT HE HAS A GUN- was going to be the most common thought he heard around people.

Blood sprayed across the kitchen floor and he was dead before the glass shattered on the ground.

Izuku felt so many emotions as he did everything he could to make sure there was no evidence of him. He hadn't touched anything or forced his way in. The only sign he'd been in the house at all was the bullet in the man's head.

So he promptly walked out the door, closed it behind him, and vomited in the trash can for a third time.

After dragging himself home he collapsed on his couch and simply wept. Allowing all of his conflicting feelings to wash over him.

That man would never harm another person. But Izuku would.

A rapist was stopped. But a murderer is walking free.

Killing Mineta was a borderline accident and a heat of the moment decision. This was premeditated murder.

He didn't realize he was hyperventilating until he heard a soft voice and felt gentle hands of mist on his shoulder.

"Izuku, I need you to breathe for me, can you do that?"

With a weak nod he curled up in Kurogiri's embrace.

He tried to hold back the tears, but a choked sob still escaped him.

"That's alright, let it all out. You're safe now little one."

Time seemed to blur as Kurogiri gently rubbed his back and held him close. They might have been like that for minutes or hours, but neither could bring themselves to care.

"Are you feeling any better now?"
