Graduation

ALANA POV

As I packed my suitcase with all the essentials for my upcoming holiday, I took great care to ensure that no vital item was overlooked. Having recently graduated, I find myself poised for a new adventure. With each passing day, I am learning to navigate my circumstances with increasing ease and confidence. Each day, Connor has been reaching out to me, seeking forgiveness. Perhaps he hopes that by doing so, he can alleviate some of the remorse he feels for betraying me.

Despite the gracious offers of reimbursement from several vendors upon learning of the canceled wedding, I made the decision to decline. My reasoning was rooted in a sense of maliciousness, as Connor had covered all expenses and I felt no desire to accept any form of compensation.

Despite everything, my plan is to utilize the cruise vacation as an opportunity to unwind. I feel that I need some time alone to rediscover myself, engage in introspection, and perhaps boost my confidence by indulging in some alcohol while surrounded by a group of unfamiliar faces in the midst of the vast ocean. Perhaps it wasn't the most prudent decision, yet it remains my sole desire at present.

Jake and Karina have arranged for my departure to the Ritz city dock, which is situated an hour's drive from Beaufort. It is at this very spot where one can find a plethora of enchanting beaches and picturesque locations where ships often dock, serving as a port of entry for numerous cruises.

As I made my way to the salon, I anticipated nothing more than a simple trim. Little did I know that fate had a different plan in store for me. As I gazed into the mirror, I was taken aback by the sight of my newly fashioned bob haircut. At the tender age of 26, I never would have imagined myself donning such a chic and sophisticated look. I gathered my belongings and smoothly rolled my luggage out of the room. Karina's sulky expression, as she rested her face on the railing, was quite a spectacle to behold. With her heart set on a cruise without Jake, I cannot bring her along. Her intentions leave a sour taste in my mouth.

"Are you certain?" she asked, crossing her arms and deepening her pout.

"Yes! "I'm afraid there's nothing that can sway my decision," I declared firmly as I deftly maneuvered my suitcase, preparing to descend the stairs.

"The experience promises to be enjoyable for the both of us! The prospect of a girls' break is made all the more exciting by the presence of my future sister-in-law and future younger sister-in-law, who are poised to conquer the world together."

Her determination to persuade me knows no bounds.

Every day, her face greeted me at the house. The mere thought of encountering her during my soul-searching journey was enough to make me shudder. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the prospect of her joining me. She and Jake are inseparable, like two peas in a pod. They are a source of both affection and irritation - a paradoxical combination that I find endearing yet vexing.

"You have a tendency to be quite bothersome."

I remarked, amused by the fact that despite everything, i still love them deeply.

As I descended the stairs, my father was engrossed in his book, but his attention was quickly drawn to my presence. The remainder of my belongings have been carefully packed and are en route to the luxurious penthouse generously bestowed upon me by my father.

"Take care," he whispered, his voice laced with concern. "Take all the time you need," Dad said, embracing me tightly and playfully tousling my short hair.

The unwavering devotion of my family never ceases to amaze me. Their fierce protection is a testament to their love, yet they grant me the freedom to chart my own course. No matter what path I choose, their unwavering support is a constant presence by my side.

"I will! Rest assured, dad, I will meet you at the Capital."

Upon the conclusion of my cruise voyage, it was agreed upon that we would convene at that location.

"We will indeed!"

As I made my way to the front door, Aunty Mei and Jake were busy loading my luggage into the trunk of the car, as instructed by him.

As I sat in the car, I feigned slumber in an attempt to evade Jake's persistent questioning. His overbearing, protective nature felt suffocating, and I longed for a moment of peace. As soon as they realized that I had drifted off into slumber, fragments of their whispered exchanges reached my ears.

The focus of the narrative centers around Connor.

I cranked up the volume on my AirPods, determined to drown out any mention of him. I have experienced both love and hate towards him to a significant degree. I yearns to progress, to ascend to new heights in my professional endeavors, and to embrace the companionship of a menagerie of ten feline and ten canine friends.

My thoughts drift to the exquisite memories we've shared, each corner of this city serving as a poignant reminder of our relationship's timeline. Every corner of this petite town serves as a constant reminder of him, and the mere thought of him ignites a fervent desire for his downfall.

Karina was insistent on showing me a picture of the woman with whom he had been involved, or rather, had betrayed me with. I declined, for it was not she who held a commitment to me, but rather Connor.

Although her moral stance may be flawed, it seems that without Connor's willingness to engage with her perspective, the situation may remain stagnant. During my university years, I encountered a multitude of flirtatious advances. Despite the abundance of attention, I remained steadfastly committed to my partner and refrained from entertaining any of the men who pursued me.

As my mind began to wander, my eyelids grew heavy and before I knew it, I had succumbed to sleep in the backseat en route to the port.

Startled from my slumber, I jolted upright as the car came to an abrupt stop.

As I rubbed my eyes, I noticed Jake's jaw tense up as he exchanged glances with Karina.

"Why did you stop?"

I leaned forward, peering between the front seats in search of an explanation for Jake's sudden halt. From my vantage point, the outskirts of the town reveal a stunning view of the Ritz cityscape.

"Lana," Karina said with a gentle tone, "if you wish to catch some more rest, feel free to do so. We are approximately 20 minutes away from reaching the port." Her comforting smile put me at ease. There was a certain intonation in her voice that seemed out of place. As my eyebrow furrowed in suspicion, my gaze fell upon Connor standing in front of the café.

The act of kissing a woman is a delicate and intimate gesture that can convey a range of emotions and desires. It involves the gentle meeting of lips, the exchange of breath, and the exploration of each other's physical and emotional boundaries. Whether it is a soft and tender peck or a passionate and fiery embrace, the act of kissing a woman is a powerful expression of love, attraction, and connection.

His hand gently cradled her chin, reminiscent of the way he used to caress me with his lips.

"Lana..." I observed as Jake became aware of my presence.

Reclining on the seat, I averted my gaze from the jubilant couple. The happiness that was meant to be mine. There she was, unmistakably herself. With her flowing tresses cascading down her back, she exudes a sense of grace and tenderness. Though her countenance remains veiled from my view, I cannot help but imagine that her visage is one of striking beauty. I abruptly pulled myself out of my daydream, where SHE had been the focus of my thoughts.

With a heavy heart, I settled into the back seat and reluctantly reached for my phone, scrolling through my Facebook feed to catch up on the latest news from my university friends. "Let's go," I muttered, feeling disinterested in the sights around me.

It appears as though everyone is present. My messenger currently displays 32 unread messages. The purpose behind their message has been made clear to us.

With a resolute determination, I made the decision to eradicate all traces of my social media presence, leaving no digital footprint behind.

Someday, I am certain that the current ordeal I am facing will be a source of gratitude. The elusive silver lining will reveal itself in due time, and I am convinced that every hardship is purposeful. I patiently await the moment when everything will fall into place and make perfect sense.

As Olaf so eloquently stated in the beloved film Frozen 2:

(everything will make sense when im older).

Someday, the pieces of this puzzle will fall into place and I will understand.
