Chapter Twenty

Marissa

"Where do you think you're going?"

I flinched at the harsh voice of guards, but still managed to hold Maria. I looked around for an escape as I couldn't let us get caught. I can't get Maria into any more trouble.

I signalled her to turn around and she slowly did.

"What are you doing here at this hour?" The guard barked.

"Well....we...." I stuttered as I tried to explain to him.

"Cat got your tongue?" He demanded.

"No, we...." Maria didn't speak up she held my hand and looked at me for answers. "We're lost," I managed to mutter.

"You shouldn't be here at this hour," he paused and looked at us. "Go back."

"Well, if you could help us with..."

"Go back to your quarters," he yelled, startling us.

"Let's go," I whispered to Maria who quietly followed me.

I could see that she had a lot to say but she was stopping herself.
