Chapter Fifteen

"And Who is she?"

I gulped hard as soon as I heard her question. Even though I was present before her she ignored my presence and chose to ask the guard about my identity.

I raised my head to speak but immediately swallowed the words. I have heard several things about the King's sister and her cruelty. I wouldn't want to be made a scapegoat at the moment.

Especially not when I just might have gotten into the king's bad book.

"She...Uh...She is lost. So I was....," the guard began his explanation but before he could speak further, he was slapped across the face by Vera.

"She is lost?" She scoffed unbelievably. "Is she a puppy to get lost in this big Palace? That you had to abandon your duty post just to show her the way?" She sneered. "Is this how you do your job?"

My heart bled for the guard like I was the one who got struck.

He was in this situation because he chose to help me. How could I let him bear the brunt alone?
