Chapter 20 : The Witches

I dropped Wren’s hand the moment we cleared the hill. Bludleach was so close and the journey had been so long and tiring. I was ready for it to be over.

From this distance, Bludleach looked idyllic like a fairy tale. Almost as if the buildings were made from gingerbread and the streets were paved with gumdrops. With a name like Bludleach, I expected it to be frightening with blood dripping from the windows, and the buildings made from human skin.

It looked normal. Honestly, it reminded me of Emerald Mountain. The only unusual thing was that the city was surrounded by a small white wall, it wasn’t made of stone but something similar.

I began to pick up my pace but Wren was quick to pull me back.

“Wait, Amaya,” he warned. “Looks can be deceiving.”

“It looks pretty pleasant to me,” I shrugged. And began to walk away from him.

“No, wait!” he called after me.

I was so close, it was like the city was calling me, luring me in. I begrudgingly turned toward him.
