The Guan Yu Mech?

The helicopter's speed wasn't breakneck, likely due to the short distance between the base and the battlefield. In less than ten minutes, Li Yue realized they had arrived at their destination.

In this world, due to the sudden appearance and monsters' attacks on cities a few years ago, countries surrounding the Pacific Ocean had established their bases along the coast. These bases maintained close contact, and the military force dedicated to defending Earth from monster attacks didn't belong to any single country. All countries agreed to send out mechs for support, ensuring that monsters wouldn't cause widespread destruction to human-populated cities.

...

The Broken Dome base Li Yue arrived at was established by China. The appearance of monsters had an unexpected benefit: it brought about unprecedented peace among nations as they faced a common enemy. Countries lifted technological embargoes to complete the Jaeger program. These massive mechs incorporated the most advanced technologies from around the world.

Though Li Yue wasn't impressed by these technologies, he was still excited upon disembarking the helicopter and following General Lin into the base, taking an elevator down several hundred meters. The sight of giant mechs being repaired or built was thrilling. This base surpassed the underground base of S.H.I.E.L.D. that Li Yue had visited in the Marvel universe.

...

"Mr. Li Yue, what do you think of our base so far?" General Lin asked with a smile as they reached a platform overlooking the entire base.

Li Yue could see the whole base bustling with activity from this platform. Everyone was busy yet organized, with no signs of chaos. Directly in front of him stood a massive mech, adorned like an ancient Chinese warrior, with a red face and a long beard on its chin. The mech held a colossal blade, with a blade length of nearly thirty meters—an actual 99-meter sword. If not for the glowing orange nuclear reactor on its chest, the mech would look like a general straight out of an ancient battlefield.

...

"The base is impressive! But, General Lin, what's the story behind this mech?" Li Yue asked, curious about the familiar-looking giant mech. It wasn't something he remembered from the movie.

"Haha, as a Chinese, you should recognize this mech's design," General Lin said, smiling.

"Of course, I recognize it! I'm just wondering why it's designed this way."

"Haha, our mechs need to have a Chinese character!" General Lin laughed as if this were obvious.

"Lin Yurou, please introduce Mr. Li Yue to this mech," General Lin instructed the girl who had accompanied them.

"Yes, General!" Lin Yurou, previously lively and curious, turned serious and professional. Her face was stern as she explained the mech's details to Li Yue.

"Mr. Li Yue, this is the latest fifth-generation mech built under General Lin's leadership, not yet in active service. Its design is based on Guan Yu, a renowned general from the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history, known for his loyalty and valor. This mech, named 'Guan Sheng Dijun' (War Saint), embodies that spirit. Many in Hong Kong hold Guan Yu in high esteem, considering him a symbol of loyalty and martial prowess."

Lin Yurou's introduction was detailed, covering everything to the most minor parameters she shared with Li Yue without reservation. Unfortunately, Li Yue found most of the information hard to follow, though he maintained a facade of understanding.

After nearly three minutes, Lin Yurou finally finished her comprehensive explanation.

"Phew, finally done!" Li Yue sighed inwardly, surprised at how exhausting it was to listen to her talk.

Despite not understanding most of it, Li Yue gathered that this Guan Yu-inspired mech was mighty, surpassing other nations' mechs.

"Ahem, since you have such a powerful mech, why didn't you deploy it when the monster attacked? Instead, you watched as Storm Crimson struggled and nearly faced destruction?" Li Yue asked, puzzled by General Lin's decision.

"Mr. Li Yue, it's not that I didn't want to deploy this mech, but we simply couldn't," General Lin said, his expression turning helpless. He didn't expect that it would end up unusable after risking a court-martial to build this behemoth.

"Couldn't? What do you mean?"

General Lin then explained the issue: the pilots couldn't withstand the severe mental strain of operating the mech. This problem left the mighty Guan Yu much grounded.
