The first thing that caught my eye was that Jean was the Host of the Phoenix Force. I was a bit surprised since her level was a bit too low for that, but I understood why a bit further down in the information from Observe.
[The Phoenix Force has been sealed by Charles Xavier years ago.]
That... that was something only a massive idiot would do! A bit further down was the explanation for why that was a beyond stupid move.
[Phoenix Force Corruption: 90%. Corruption speed is increased due to the Phoenix Force being sealed. Host has almost turned into a Dark Phoenix.]
The Phoenix Force itself is already scary enough, but the Dark Phoenix was even scarier. It represented power and destruction. It was the evil half of the Phoenix Force, one that you would hope to everything good to never ever get to see, for that just may be the last thing you ever witness.
In the book about Dimensional and Universal beings, there was a mention of the Dark Phoenix. An alien Host of the Phoenix Force had turned into one and had destroyed countless planets before he was stopped.
If Jean turns into the Dark Phoenix, the Earth will get destroyed, no questions asked.
[Phoenix Force Corruption: 91%]
Oh, shit! It was because she was angry that I never told her I have superpowers. Great. Just Great.
[A Quest has been created.]
[Save the world: Prevent Jean Grey from turning into the Dark Phoenix.]
[Reward: 1 000 000 XP; ???]
[Failure: The destruction of Earth and many more planets]
[Duration: 30 minutes]
Oh, you have to be kidding me! How the fuck was I supposed to prevent her from turning into the Dark Phoenix. I still accepted the Quest, I had to at least try. Even if I didn't, the situation was already as bad as it can get.
"What?" The X-Men asked, wondering about what I just said.
I couldn't waste time on them at all. Jean was standing just out of arms reach from me. I activated Mana Strengthening, and with the boost from Parkour and Cheetah's Speed, I stepped towards her as quickly as possible.
Out of all the X-Men, only Logan reacted on time, but I had already grabbed Jean. He tried reaching out towards me, but I used Create ID and entered the Mirror Dimension before he can reach me.
[Phoenix Force Corruption: 92%]
"What the hell, Will!" Jean screamed out and pushed me away. I stopped my Mana Strengthening to not frighten her anymore.
"Jean, you ha..."
"You have superpowers, and you are a mutant? Why didn't you tell us? Why didn't you tell me? I thought we were friends!" Jean continued screaming at me.
[Phoenix Force Corruption: 93%]
"Jean, y..."
"Don't Jean me! I should've known that you had some ulterior motives! How stupid was I to trust you!"
[Phoenix Force Corruption: 94%]
"I finally thought I found someone I can connect to and speak freely, but that was obviously too good to be true!"
[Phoenix Force Corruption: 95%]
I get that she wanted to rant, but I really had to do something and fast. I reached out and grabbed her shoulders.
"Jean, you have to calm down!"
"Let go of me!" Jean yelled back and struggled away.
[Phoenix Force Corruption: 96%]
"If you don't call down, you will destroy the world!" That got to her, and she looked visibly shocked.
"What are you talking about?" Jean asked after seeing that I was dead serious.
"Before I tell you, you have to promise me, Jean, that you will stay calm and not freak out in any way," I slowly said while keeping an eye on her corruption. It's at 96%, this is way too close for comfort.
"I don't understand," Jean said, confused at my words.
"Just take deep and calming breaths. Think of peaceful things. Don't think about anything negative. Only happy thoughts." I had no idea what I was saying. I've never had to calm down a person.
Jean did take a few deep breaths, and the corruption didn't raise anymore.
"Will, why didn't you tell us you are a mutant?" Jean asked in a moment, calmer than a second ago.
"I will tell you all about my Magic, I promise you, but we need to talk about you," I said.
"Magic?" Jean let out a quick laugh as if I was joking. "Everyone knows that Magic doesn't exist."
...
People can shoot laser beams out of their eyes, they can move at extreme speed, teleport, move objects with their mind, hear other people's thoughts, create and manipulate the weather at will, but Magic, Magic is where you draw the line? Seriously?
"I am completely honest with you when I say that Magic exists. I promise that I will show you all the cool stuff I can do with Magic, but we are not here for this. We are here for you," I said calmly, my eyes never leaving the corruption percentage.
"I don't understand. Why?" Jean asked.
"I just need you to promise me that you will stay calm no matter what I tell you. This is very important. For my and the world's survival."
"I don't understand, Will," Jean said again, visibly confused at why her being calm mattered with the world's survival.
"Just promise me, please," I begged her.
"I... Okay, I promise I will stay calm," Jean said after staring in my eyes for a moment.
Good, now I just had to explain to her that she is the Host of one of the most powerful beings in the entire Universe without her freaking out. Just great.
Well, it was time to bullshit.
"There are many powerful beings in the Universe," I started, and Jean looked confused at what I was talking about.
"Some, even more special than the others. One such being is the Phoenix Force." I had to be careful about what I say next because if I wasn't, I would have to kiss my life goodbye.
"The Phoenix Force is a very beautiful being. It represents all life that has, is, and will exist. It also servers as a nexus for all psionic energy."
"I don't understand what you are getting at, Will."
"The Phoenix Force tends to select certain beings that are similar to it. Beings that are kind, gentle, intelligent, and just as beautiful as her. The Phoenix Force grants them a part of her power, and they become known as a Host of the Phoenix Force."
Jean was already starting to figure it out.
"Again, it selects only those that are kind, gentle, intelligent, and beautiful. People that will use the Phoenix Force's powers for good."
[Lying has increased to 24.]
Yeah, the Phoenix Force didn't care about those qualities, but I had to sell it here.
"I'm a Host of the Phoenix Force?" Jean asked
"Yes," I confirmed as gently as possible.
[Phoenix Force Corruption: 97%]
Oh, shit!
"Jean, please stay calm and don't freak out. This is not a bad thing. Remember, the Phoenix Force selects only those that are kind, gentle, intelligent, and beautiful."
[Lying has increased to 25.]
[Phoenix Force Corruption: 98%]
Why is not working?
Dark flames started materializing around her. A few of them just brushed my hands.
-200HP
-200 HP
[Fire Resistance has increased to 22.]
-195 HP
-195 HP
[Fire Resistance has increased to 23.]
"Being a Host of the Phoenix Force is an incredible thing. You can do so much good with the powers granted to you by the beautiful being."
Okay, that seemed to calm her down a bit. The dark fire around her wasn't randomly striking me. That was a good thing since my HP was at 228.
Activating Mana Strengthening to increase my Vitality right now was a bit risky since it gave me a slight glow. I didn't want to startle her at this critical moment.
"Your hands!" Jean exclaimed, seeing the severe burns on my hands.
[Phoenix Force Corruption: 99%]
"Don't worry about it! I have Magic to heal myself. I even have Magic Potions. See?" I pulled out two Health Potions and gulped them down within a second. The effect was instant, and the burns recovered somewhat.
Jean looked dumbfounded. "Magic is real?"
...
She sees a potion and instantly believes Magic is real... I wish I had a calming potion or Magic for this moment. Wait... I do. Well, kinda.
"Yep, I'm gonna show you one of my Magics." I gently grabbed her hand and activated Massage.
Jean let out a cute moan, and we locked eyes. I looked surprised while she looked embarrassed. She then quickly looked away.
"Look!" I said and made an energy construct in the form of a chair and layered on illusion over it.
"Take a seat while I finish my explanation."
Jean looked at me in wonder before sitting down. I walked behind her and started massaging her back.
"Oh... just right there." Jean let out another moan, and I stopped for a second. "No, don't stop."
I quickly continued my massage. I didn't want the end of the world to come because I stopped massaging Jean, and she got angry. That would be a dumb way to go.
"Now, the Phoenix Force is a pure being, but it can get corrupted by evil emotions. When that happens, it becomes an evil being of destruction."
"Mhm..."
I don't think she is even listening to me at this point... There is no point in me continuing with my bullshit. If I had known that Massage would save the day, I would've done it from the start!
I tried explaining it a couple more times, but she just kept answering with, "Mhm," and moaning from time to time and exclaiming how good it felt.
However, the Quest still wasn't complete. Her corruption was 99%, and she was on the verge of becoming a Dark Phoenix.
I had no idea how I can fix that, but I know someone that might.
"Jean," I called out to her.
"Mhm..." Jean had her eyes closed, enjoying the massage, and completely ignoring me.
"Jean," I repeated a few more times.
"Yes?" She finally said.
"Would you please come with me to meet the person that taught me Magic. She can help you out with controlling your Phoenix Powers. I promise to massage you as much as you want if you agree."
Hell, I'm gonna massage her whenever she asks as long as it stops her from becoming the Dark Phoenix.
"You promise?" Jean asked, her green eyes filled with hope.
"Yep, I promise. I just need you to come with me," I said and turned around. I waved my hand, a motion I didn't need to do for some time now, and created a portal to Kamar-Taj.
"Ta-da! Magic Portal!"
"Magic really exists," Jean said in amazement.
"Yes, it does," I said and offered my hand. Jean took it, and I started rubbing my thumb in circles while activating Massage. I had to make sure she is as calm at all times. She is just 1% away from becoming a Dark Phoenix.
The moment we stepped through the portal, the Ancient One appeared in the Mirror Dimension. She must've sensed me opening the portal.
There was a flash of green light coming from the necklace she wore from time to time. I've used Observe on it more than once, but every time it came up with only question marks. I don't know what it was, but it was valuable, and I wanted it, but now was not the time for that.
The Ancient One cast a spell so fast, I didn't even see it. Next thing I know, Jean was falling unconscious. I couldn't even catch her since she started floating after the Ancient One, who was already walking towards a room in the temple.
On the way, she exited out of the Mirror Dimension before entering a room. I followed after and watched as the Ancient One gently placed her on a simple bed.
"You did a good thing bringing her here," She started while waving her hands over Jean. "I don't know if there is anyone else that can help her at this moment. You can leave now. I will handle it from here and call you when I'm done."
I nodded and left her to her work. No need to disturb her. A moment later, I head a ding sound.
[Quest has been complete.]
+1 000 000 XP
[You have leveled up to 41.]
[You have leveled up to 42.]
...
[You have leveled up to 49.]
Where's the other part of my reward? I mean 9 levels is good, but there was supposed to be more! I got cheated! GM, I want to report a bug!
Anyway, the world won't get destroyed today, and I get to keep my life for now. Maybe that's my reward? Who knows.
I then entered the Mirror Dimension and teleported back to New York on top of a building near the place I had left earlier.
The X-Men were looking around, trying to find any clue of where Jean and I had disappeared to. Ororo was in the air flying around, the others were on the ground, and Logan was sniffling everything like an animal. The people around them were ignoring them as if they didn't exist. Well, Charles Xavier seems to be doing his work.
I exited the Mirror Dimension, and almost immediately, Logan looked towards me. The others soon did the same. Ororo flew in front of me, her eyes crackling with electricity and fury.
"Where is Jean?" That was obviously not a question but a demand, but lady, you don't get demand from men when I saved your lives!
"Where the fuck is Charles Xavier?" I demanded back with just as much fury.
That started Ororo, she hadn't expected that from me.
[Sense Danger increased to 8.]
The skill warned me of Scott, who was charging his laser attack. However, an attack like that couldn't work against me. I created a portal in the path of the laser. The exit appeared behind Scott, and his own attack hit him in the back.
"I'm gonna ask again, where the fuck is Charles Xavier?"
"Why do you wish to know?" Ororo asked, and the wind started picking up. She was ready to attack at a moment's notice.
At that moment, a portal appeared next to me, and Mordo came out of it. He looked ready to fight with his staff in his hands and didn't even bother asking me what's going on.
Mordo, I'm going to make you the best meal ever after this!
His presence boosted my confidence a lot more, and I said. "Because I want to beat the shit out of the idiot who decided that sealing one of the most powerful beings in the Universe and creating a ticking time bomb that can destroy worlds was a smart idea."
The X-Men looked confused. Mordo, on the other hand, looked absolutely furious after hearing me.
