Aiden was so distraught that he couldn't even appreciate the thought of seeing Amelia again. He just sat on the floor, his head in his hands as he stared at his feet in defeat. His lips kept moving, muttering inconceivable words as Matteo got up, sighed, and walked towards Amelia, picking up a shawl on the way.
"It's cold," he said, placing the shawl over Amelia's shoulders.
She smiled up at him, touching his hand gently. The shawl did bring some warmth back to her body, but that wasn't enough to get rid of the frost that chilled her heart hearing Aiden in the living room.
"You told him?" she asked, casting a glance at Aiden's back. He was still crouched over, his shoulders trembling for reasons she didn't know.
Was he crying?
Matteo nodded once, his lips tightly pinched together to form a fine line. "Benjamin Hawthorne apparently stopped by the Montgomery Mansion," Matteo said. "Aiden caught them together."
