Chapter 3

There are nights when the wolves are silent, and only the moon howls

- George Carlin

Word got out about a pack in Rhode island had found a portal to another world and planned on overtaking it, normally we would think otherwise witches have created such things before, a place they could hide. The pack had sent in some scouts early on and when they didn't come back others went and found them dead, slaughtered not by guns, but by silver swords, there has always been a misperception about silver, yes it kills werewolves, but so does regular bullets. Silver tends to speed up the process, but at a great cost, but not to the wolves. After a werewolf is killed by silver he is reborn as a much stronger Wolf, there have been family's that have done this process themselves, when they get to old they kill them by silver and come back into the family through childbirth. Great Alphas have come from these lines of family's, you could say my family has been curse with silver, sense only our firstborn is cursed.

I was expecting the alpha to adress us about the situation, to tell us we were going to help them, instead, he told us were weren't having any part in this fight. For so many damn years, the packs have decided to keep to themselves, we all believe ourselves the superior ones, but also have our differences. I always thought it was useless for us to be split, the packs should be united, and kill together like we did before the curse came to the U.S. Enraged, I went to my alpha, nobody ever adresses the alpha besides the second in command, so when a fifteen year old came barging through the doors with words that shouldn't be spoken, he was speechless for the longest time, then he spoke with rage.

You dare speak to me that way boy, you cone in my home thinking you can tell what I can and can't do. My word goes. You are not to speak to me like this again or so help me, you'll wish yourself dead.

We can't just stand here and watch them die, they lost some already.

They'll be reborn, died by silver remember. Now get out here boy.

And that was it... I had no say, of course I don't, I was fifteen. I couldn't stand for it, we have been fighting our battles separately and have lost wolves due to it. Instead of listening I went to Kieth and asked him to come with me, he agreed to come with as long as he could practiced some magic on me, while I was concerned at first he explained to me it was a ritual that will bond us together, as blood brothers. I agreed to this and we set off for Rhode island.

Three days of traveling and we finally made it to our destination, the pack that sent the message greeted us with thankful hands, while they had hoped for more, they were fine with getting just me, the weapon of Sioux pack, a name I didn't care for but I took it as a compliment. Kieth went off to collect the items needed for his ritual while I stayed back to see what we have on the people of the portal, three villages under a kings rule, all near each other which be a problem if warning gets out of the wolves attack. But the people were actually were humans, which is odd because witches try to leave mortals out of there business, they was little to no witches either, only few stood out and they didn't seem powerful. I believed this to be a breeze but knew these humans new how to stand there ground, they already killed some of the scouts, and would most definitely be able to kill if needed. So I readied myself, testing my strength to the max which has grown sense the first day of my curse, Kieth had also returned and we took to the ritual.

Slade, you saved my life not to long ago and your grandmother has taken me into her home, I'm thankful for your family's gratitude and want to help out in any way possible. This ritual will give me the power to keep you safe and be able to track you from anywhere in the world. You Slade, will gain strength from my family tree, of the ancestors who wielded great power, you will be unstoppable. Will you allow me to make the true beast your ment to be?

By God Kieth had a way with words, I agreed and we got started, this was old magic, long forgotten, the words he spoke held power, power that took a toll on him and me. I blacked out in a matter of seconds and my slumber took me to my dreams. I was standing in a clearing, two witches stood in front of me, a boy who looked to be a reptile, and a girl who seemed to be wolf like, I knew her but don't remember how, they walked over to me the girl spoke up

Slade, it's great to see you at last, you don't remember me but we were together when we we were young, I was taken away because of the magic that I possessed grew dangerous.

You say I know you, but how can I trust you?

Sadness grew in her eyes, she wanted me to believe but I couldn't, but damn it I do know her, but from where. Before she could say anything the dreamed ended and I awoke to the yells of wolves, they had left for the attack without concerning me about it, why leave me in the dark. I left hoping I was to late, the screams were not of pain, but of Triumph it seems, but I had to make sure, so I ran into the forest that had surrounded the portal. When I can to the clearing I saw the second in command on the ground dead and a boy with sword in hand leading a small girl back to the portal, at first I thought it was the boy from my dream, the one that hadn't spoken, but it wasn't, he's different, yet still a reptiallian witch. He stopped an looked in my direction, he pludged the sword into the ground and told the girl to go on ahead. After she was gone I headed his way.

When I reached him I could tell he held great power, so did the sword he just put away, I looked the second in command, choked to death

You have great strength, not many can choke someone like you did to the wolf there.

Just turn around you filthy mongrel, I came to take the girl home as well as the sword, unless you want to end up like him, or the others I slaughtered back home, get going

Cocky bastard ain't he, he doesn't even know me, or know my power

Mongrel eh? Listen to me lizard boy, I'm not like rest, I followed wolf law, I don't take captives, they should've never done that, so I respect your work, but you still killed my kind, so you will join them in death.

   Let's see you try

He changed from a boy to what seemed like a winged snake, a dragon, not enough to take me down. I've kept this a secret from my pack sense I joined them, but due to the power I possess, I took a form between human and wolf, A Lycan if you must, in this form, I control my wolfs hunger of blood, and possess the means to slaughter indefiantly, the boys seemed astonished, but came at me without hesitation. He was to slow, wolves have always had speed and agility, when he came at me it was if it was slow motion. I blocked it easily and stricken him down, it didn't take long for me to finish it, I beat him to a pulp, he went back to human form and collapsed. I beat him, now to kill him, when I was about to end his life, the little girl came through

Doggy please don't kill him, he only came to protect me, he's  a good dragon,  those other doggy's came and hurt my family and try taking me.

Damn, I hate children, I should've killed the boy, but the girl, she was able to do what most others couldn't, she stopped me. I went over to her and knelt down.

Well then, I need you to watch him for me okay, I want to keep my family safe. Don't let him come back unless I say so okay

She smiled.

Okay doggy, I won't let him come back here, pinkie promise.

Good now go on ahead, let me talk to him for a second then I'll let him go.

She ran back through the portal and I walked back over to the boy, I should've just ended it, he took lives away of men that had family's, that's when I looked back at the sword. I walked over to it and grabbed it by the helm and pulled it from the ground, that's when the blade spoke to me and I knew why It was giving off a powerful aura

Mighty fine peace you have boy... listen here now.

I turned to him pointing the sword straight at his throut.

You are not to come back, I'm sparing your because of that little girl, she needs protection and it seems you will go to great lengths to keep safe, for that you shall live, but Mark my words... If you are ever to return, I will not show the mercy that I show now...

   I turned to leave

Oh, I regret to inform you, but you have failed Dulihans request, I take this peace as my trophy... so long

Wait a minute, you know Dulihan

He was barely able to speak, but I heard him

Your not going to believe this but...

   I responded

The sword told me... Now as I said before... Don't come back

And that was the end of it, with one last blow, I kicked the boy through the portal leaving him to fend for himself. I headed back to the pack and informed the alpha about the lose of the second in command of the rest of the fighters, but told him I delt with those who killed them, he thanked me as well as the rest of the pack. My business was done, I went to find Kieth and we set off back home, while I had hope my adventure would stayed a secret, it didn't. Word got out that the Sioux Pack's weapon helped with the defeat of the portal village, this didn't sit well with my alpha

I told you, not to help them, we don't help outsiders, we fend for ourselves. You've crossed the line boy.

He beat me down as punishment, it was after this that the Sioux pack started to have concerns about me, many stopped talking to me believing I'd lash out just for fun. This was not my only mistake, I made many more over the next three years, my last job, had been the final job. Me and the Alpha's son Drake had set off on a job, not knowing what we dealing with, what we had found, was a vampire. The first vampire I have ment, certainly not the last, she was gorgeous and seemed harmless. I couldn't kill her and grew hesitant, my hesitation cost the life of Drake's, I killed her as revenge, but knew I was done for. I brought Drake home and the alpha did something we have never see him do, he cried. The loss of a son is unimaginable and I just brought him his dead son, he lashed out at me, nearly killing me, instead, he left the scar of the exiled across my face. A mark to let other know that I have been shunned by my pack and outcasted to live alone and to never return to the Sioux pack territory, my life was over in a heartbeat.
