Chapter 40

Rome, Italy.

Alliana's pov:

Souline was staring at me blankly. "You still want to help them? Even after what happened?" Souline asked. I sighed and nodded. "It's complicated," I explained.

"Alliana, do you still want to help them after what they did to you? I'm starting to believe that this isn't about the work but rather about Carlos!" Souline snarled.

"It has nothing to do with Souline!" I exclaimed. "How come you're still going to help them then?" Souline asked.

After Souline asked again, I looked down, unsure of what to say. Was this all about Carlos? Obviously, because he's the one I'm helping.

Was it, however, more than that? No. It was more about the friendships I formed with AJ, Denzel, and Vex, especially Vex.

The thing is, I couldn't stop thinking about what happened in prison with Carlos and me.

I should have been able to stop thinking about it, but I didn't and couldn't.
