Chapter 20: The Demigod

Sabado de Gloria, Other side of the World, Pan-ay Island, Philippines

The tribe was slowly getting used to the stillness of the morning. The aftermath of the sacrifice was still jarring, as ash covered the surrounding trees. After the new Diwata King pledged allegiance to the newborn, Marikudo, a scream sounded from the birthing hut.

Apo Lakay panicked and rushed towards the birthing hut. Kadir also followed after Apo Lakay, propriety was in second place, and he thought that something had happened to the Chosen child.

When they arrived in the birthing hut, the Komadrona (a midwife) lifted a pale white snake with blue iridescent scales. The snake had four legs and pale white wings. When Kadir opened his eyes, a high-pitched cry came from the animal. Kadir saw the snake's forest green eyes, a telltale sign of his Diwata heritage—a Kanlaon Diwata.

"Apo Lakay, forgive me for being presumptive, but I think that the Chosen's Kapid (twin) is my brother," Kadir said.

"What do you mean King Kadir?" Apo Lakay asked, confused by the statement of the Diwata.

"There is always a thin line between the Human Realm and the Kaibabawan. I think that humans are other tribes separated from Kaibabawan. Notice that we almost look the same, or that the beings in Kaibabawan can transform into a human form? In your history, there are humans with mysterious Kapids. Often, they have special traits, warriors, healers, dimension travelers, and pandays (forgers). Having an Encanto Kapid is a sign from above that the child has a higher purpose." Kadir narrated.

"It also involves an unknown phenomenon. When a human woman, bearing a child in the human realm reaches her 3rd month of pregnancy, and at the same time, a Diwata in Kaibabawan is at the same time giving birth in their realm, the child of the Diwata will automatically cross realms. He will stay in the womb of the pregnant human and will be born as a guardian and companion of the Demigod. Their human kapid is then considered Demigods in your realm. He will be half-tao, half-encanto. Some Kapids are Kapids of the soul, and other Maharlika (royalty) in our realm are born as animals. The lower beings on Kaibabawan are usually born as soul partners of their human Demigods. I think the same goes for the Kaidadalman." Kadir added.

Apo Lakay was stunned. He felt his head throb at the gigantic responsibility upon his shoulders.
