Magic and the Enchanted Forest

The room was lit up with a color that could only be described as translucent, in other words, the crystal ball stayed the same color. But, the signs of it being used were there.

"This, what is happening?" said Zen.

Knock knock

There was someone at the door.

"Coming!" shouted Zen.

It was Fen, he had come to them to verify something.

The moment he came in, he asked Arche.

"Arche, you're from one of the cosmic families, aren't you?"

"What's the cosmic families?" Arche asked back.

"Not much is known about them, one known fact is that they were guardians of the planet,"

"Could there any more known facts about them?" curiously asked Arche.

"Let's see… oh! One fact is that the only remnant of the once prominent families is the Solar family," answered Fen.

[The mentioned facts align with what I know, should I tell him? Then again, father didn't say it was a secret]

"So? Was I correct in my assumption?" Fen waited for Arche's reply enthusiastically.

Arche hesitated before making a decision.

[Hm, this shouldn't bring harm… …right?]

After moments of thinking and head-scratching, Arche answered Fen.

"Yeah, I'm a descendant from the ruined moon family,"

"Moon…? HAHAHA that's great!" Fen laughed loudly.

Arche and Zen stood there in silence, awaiting an end to Fen's endless laughing, it was going on for so long that Zen had to interrupt.

"Sir, what's the matter?"

Eventually, Fen stopped laughing so he could reply to Zen.

"Zen, did you know? Our clan's ancestor was a good friend of a member of the Moon family,"

"No, sir, I did not know,"

"This… …well, our ancestor, the primordial wolf, Fenrir, was given the morphing magic so we could walk bipedally,"

"Wait, so does that mean?"

"Yes, our ability to walk bipedally, is magic, inherited from ancient times,"

"I'm confused, how does all of this correlate to my magical ability?" asked Arche.

"Hm? Oh yeah, I forgot, this transparency means you can learn all the magic available to you. Granted, there is a limiter, while you can utilize all forms of magic, you can't master all of them,"

"Apart from the limiter, that's terrific news!" Arche said with his eyes glittered in gold.

"So, here's my proposal, why don't you stay here and learn the transformation magic?"

[Hm… I do need to be stronger, stronger until none can threaten me]

"Okay, why don't we start right away?"

"HAHAHAHA, I like your enthusiasm!"

Soon after both had reached an agreement, they headed towards Fen's library, where records of ancient times were recorded and stored there.

"Let's see… …here we are!"

Fen blew the clouds of dust off the book then handed it to Arche.

"This… …is it?"

"Yep!"

"You're not going to teach me?"

"Nope."

Thud!

Shocked by what Fen had said, Arche's body instantly fell to the floor.

"W-Why?" he said perplexed.

"Because it's natural for us in the Fenrir clan that it doesn't feel like magic," Fen stated.

[Hmm… where do I begin…?] thought Arche.

"There should be a complete understanding of the magic in that book, you can also use my yard," Fen added.

"Thanks, I'll make sure to use your yard well," bantered Arche.

At Fen's yard

"Now, I should read this book thoroughly," proclaimed Arche.

Arche then began reading the book one page at a time. Within the first page was the explanation and history of the Fenrir clan's transformation magic.

There were not any official names written in the book, the magic was simply written as "Transformation magic". The magic was first held by the primordial wolf, Fenrir. The book explained that the one who inflicted the magic was a beast tamer from the Lunar family.

Fenrir's first-ever habitat was the Enchanted Forest. The Enchanted Forest was well-known among the cosmic families.

The forest was where primordial beings such as the Phoenix, Fenrir, Jörmungandr, and even the Kraken were. Creatures that were mentioned lived in completely different habitats. The forest had all their needs.

The forest itself was not a normal forest, it was the whole planet. The planet was located in between the Solar and the Lunar families.

The planet itself acted like that of a prison. The families stood their ground as protectors that prevents those beings from escaping the planet and invading other planets.

One night, a man descended from the moon to explore the forest. That was not his only intention, the second was to form a relationship with the primordial wolf, Fenrir.

On his first night, he encountered a creature dressed in a grey cloak over a green dress, with long pale hair.

It was a Banshee, a creature of the night. A banshee would wail if someone nearby was on the verge of death. Although imposing, they were relatively harmless since he was still full of life. It is stated in the book that the Banshee became the man's familiar.

He asked the Banshee if they knew the direction towards Fenrir's lair. To his surprise, the Banshee understood him and pointed north, towards the land of the Freezing Pain. He had an affinity with the creatures of the night, he even initiated conversations with them while he walked to the north.

When he arrived at the Freezing Pain, he was greeted. He was greeted with a thin but strong humanoid creature, it is ice-blue in color, cold to the touch, with hair that is long and frozen stiff.

It is shirtless and barefoot, being unbothered by the cold. An unnerving smile is plastered on its face. But the dangerous part of this monster is its long, bony fingers with long, sharp fingernails.

It was a Mahaha. They were known to be quite foolish and easily tricked. Knowing that he asked it to have a drink with him at the nearest water hole. When the Mahaha leaned down to drink, he swiftly pushed it into the water and watched it be swept away by the currents.

He ventured in deeper and deeper towards where Fenrir's lair was. He spotted in the corner of his eyes, what seemed like a hut, covered in snow.

Curiosity got the better of him, he thought that if there was someone who resided in the Freezing Pain, they could guide him towards Fenrir.

When he was around five meters away from the hut, a sudden gust of chill was felt from behind. Although reluctant, he looked back and saw a woman.

The woman took a quick look at him and swiftly got within a centimeter of him. Out of nowhere, she poked him with her freezing touch.

Confused, he asked the woman,

"What are you trying to do?"

The woman was also confused, she tried touching him once more only to see herself even more bamboozled.

He later found out she was a Yuki-Onna. She tried to take away his life force with one of the many methods she had in her arsenal.

When the fiasco ended and she stopped assaulting him, he asked her to be his guide to Fenrir's lair. Unbeknownst to him, she was a friend of Fenrir.

They ventured further north, at that time, they encountered a creature. In appearance, it looked like a haggard, naked old man with wolfish eyes with chunks of flesh missing.

It covered its flesh in pine resin and rolled in leaves and fallen branches to make a camouflage for itself in the forest.

Among the known creatures that fit the description, they were called the Chenoo. They were remnants of natives that lived on the land before it was made as a prison.

It was once a human being...a human being who committed cannibalism or refused to feed the starving. This caused the human's heart to freeze and turn to pure ice, taking the shape of a small human figure.

Once this happens, the person changes into a Chenoo. Chenoos are giants compared to humans and are described as being both man and beast.

To kill the beast, one of the many ways is to slash it into pieces, which'll shatter the frozen heart. The other is to throw salt at it. The salt will melt their frozen heat at a quick pace.

But he didn't have salt on him, since he deemed it dangerous. If any salt were to go on him while he was on this land, it would injure him, akin to getting frostbite, as well as causing painful open sores to form on the skin.

Tap Tap Tap

Sounds of footsteps were heard near both of them, and it approached them at a quick pace.

In front of them stood a mighty being with black fur and red eyes.

It was the Fenrir, the two had an instant connection.

But it was cut short by the oncoming attack from Chenoo.

Wraaa! Yelled out the creature.

Shing!

Before it got too close, Fenrir sliced its body into pieces.

"You… …come with me" directed Fenrir.

The moment they entered his lair, the Yuki-Onna went to the back.

Thud

The both of them sat down in silence for a while.

Fenrir initiated the conversation.

"What is a boy from the Lunar family doing here?" it inquired.

"I came here to make a pact with you!" he replied.

"And why should I?" Fenrir disputed.

"U-Um…" stuttered the boy.

"Ahaha! Don't mind it. I was messing with you!" laughed Fenrir.

"Oh," he said with a surprised face.

"You know what, if you can turn me into a humanoid, I'll make a pact with you," negotiated Fenrir.

"Why do you want to turn into one?" he questioned.

"Because of her. She's always been with me whenever I felt lonely," Fenrir swooned.

"Hm, alright, if you say so,"

He later cast magic upon Fenrir that made him humanoid and could finally embrace his beloved. Fenrir thanked the boy by making a forever pact.

The pact included that Fenrir, along with the Phoenix, who was already in a pact with the Solar family, both must safeguard the prison for as long as their contractor's family lasts.
