Chapter 36: Every Girl's Dream, or Nightmare

Shayla

The weekend approached, excitedly so, and Shayla hadn't been this inspired for a weekend in a long time. Her time now was precious with everyone she loved, especially Evan. She had lost so much of it and so many people that she knew she couldn't take a second with her loved ones for granted.

Right on schedule, her father woke up to help with the kids for the day. Shayla was in the kitchen scrambling some eggs when he walked in.

"Good morning sunshine," he said as he planted a kiss on the top of her head. Though Shayla was quite tall at five feet and seven inches, her father still towered over her with his six-foot frame.

"Good morning, Dad. How did you sleep?" she asked.

"Not bad at all, honestly. What about you?" he asked as he filled his mug with steaming coffee.

"I slept great."

"Let me finish up those eggs and toast. You need to start getting ready. Evan said he would be here at what, eleven?" he asked.
