Chapter 30: In the Shadows

In the moonlight she could see the beast's gentle blue eyes. No other wolf had eyes like Evan's.

"Evan? What are you doing here?" she asked.

He changed back and his now human body lay on top of hers. The familiarity of him being close set in and her body loosened from its tense fashion.

He pushed himself off of her and brushed the dirt from the Earth off of his clothing. He extended his hand for her to grab but she refused it and pushed herself up and brushed her clothing as well.

"I asked you a question," she said.

"I come here all the time. I wait for you to show. I sit on the rock and wait. You never come. Until tonight. I never gave up on the idea of you showing up. My heart wouldn't let me."

"Evan--"

"No Shayla. This time you are going to listen. You never listen. You are so d*mn stubborn. I need you to listen for once," he said as he put his hands on his hips.

She laughed.

"What's so funny?" he asked.
