Chapter 15: Feels Like Forever

The morning sun rose, falling on Shayla's permanent smile. She threw the covers off and walked to the window. She pulled the curtains back and stared out into the morning world.

This was the first time in a very long time that she was waking up feeling whole. Like, nothing was missing anymore.

Sure, her dad was gone, but that was his choice. It was nothing to do with her, so she needed to stop punishing herself and just let love in.

And that is exactly what she did when it came knocking at her front door an hour later.

"Hey there," she said as Evan planted a kiss on her cheek.

Shayla hadn't told Natalie or Matt anything from the previous night's meeting about Evan, so seeing the shocked look on Natalie's face was priceless.

"Good morning, Evan. Good to see you again. You hungry?" asked Natalie.

"Good morning. I am, but Shayla and I made breakfast plans."

"Ah, I see. Well, you two enjoy and I will talk to you later on, Miss Shayla."
