Chapter 32

“We’ll come back. I promise.”

His words seemed to satisfy whatever need she had, and she relaxed into the chair. A moment later, she brightened again, shooting him a brilliant smile.

“This means I get to drive, doesn’t it?”

“Well, I was thinking we could just stowaway in a plane or something. But if you want to drive…”

“A plane isn’t going to get us from the airport to the cabin. And it would look funny if nobody can see the driver behind the wheel, don’t you think?”

Lucky arched his brow. “How do you know anybody besides Shane can see you? He’s the only one who can hear us.”

Her face fell. “Oh. I hadn’t thought of that.”

“Come on, gorgeous.” Lucky swallowed his bad feelings and forced himself to his feet. “Let’s go down to the casino floor and see if anybody notices.”

She stood as well and took his hand. “If I don’t get dressed again, we might find ourselves having to explain a whole lot more than the fact that I’m supposed to be dead.”
