With an exasperated sigh, he tried again. He could almost hear Lucky chuckling at his shoulder behind him. “One of these days, I’ll get you to see the value of how quick and dirty can do the trick sometimes,” he’d say.

And then Stella would laugh. She’d lean closer, hemming Shane between the pair of them, and tease, “Lucky just doesn’t know how to appreciate someone who’s willing to make the good things last.”

Then Shane would start to get hard, thinking of just how he’d show both of them how slow and steady could be worth it, and he’d push open the door without anything but a shake of his head, because feeding their flirtations would only torture him.
