You Can Do Better Than Ok

After paying the waiter Megan's expenses, Mabel walked back to Holden to return his credit card. She dropped it untop of the table but he didn't spare her one glance, he just took it back and continued with his phone.

She sighed tiredly, there was no use convincing him to be taught properly, he was a total snub. Well she would see how much he could be a total snub when Miss Willows finds out about the cheating technique.

She arrived back at Megan's table to see a couple of not too familiar faces sitting down with Megan. That was weird, when she had last approached Megan she saw a group but she payed no attention because her plan of convincing Holden didn't work well and she was upset but now she was clearly seeing them and they were Megan's friends from school.

" So..... Marble....How much did Megan give you to help her talk to Holden because we are ready to pay double", Lilly Rose said with a killer smile on her lips but all it did was irritate both Megan and Mabel.

First of all, they didn't know her name, they seriously called her Marble and now they thought she was taking money from Megan to talk to Holden. Girls are indeed crazy, that's for sure.

She just stared at them quietly and signaled Megan that they should be leaving. She soon walked away from them with the help of Megan and she was sure they would have chased after her if it wasn't for Megan.

Megan and Mabel got into Mabel's car and zoomed off. Mabel dropped Megan off at her home when she saw Megan's grand dad and greeted him too. They promised to call and probably see at school so Mabel got into the car and drove home. She couldn't afford to go home late.

The next day at school, Mabel had just opened her locker with the intention to put her books inside when someone shut it close very hard. Shocked, she looked up to see a very angry Holden staring at her and gasps from the other students who were probably in the hallway who must have heard the noise came along. it drew attention also, as it was caused by Holden they stared as well.

Mabel didn't have time to process what was happening as immediately, Holden held her wrist and took her away. She finally regained herself after he slammed the door hard and she figured she was in an empty classroom.

" Holden why did you bring me here?", she asked softly, a bit out of breath though, but somehow she was still scared within because she knew what she did.

Holden laughed maniacally and stared at her like any moment he would slap her for playing dumb. He raised his phone up to show her the screen which read. ' The perfect lie', a notification that he was supposed to download this new book. " Did I not tell you not to fucking ruin anything? You fucking got your extra credits and I was acing literature. Did I tell you that I needed your stupid goody two shoes idea to ruin it?", he said coldly and she swallowed deeply.

" Listen Holden I did it for both our good what we were both doing was wrong", she said to have him glare at her. " Look if it's about the literature, I can help you study the perfect lie too, just, not the other way, the right way",she said and he seemed to be in deep thoughts, until he finally spoke.

" Brownie you had better be able to sort this out else I will make sure you get a total B in all your subjects", he said for her to gasp as he left the empty classroom.

B was what got her into this mess in the first place. Anyways she thought that she was going to have to work hard a lot to convince Holden. Well since that's settled she might as well head to math class in peace.

She went back to her locker, placed her books inside and brought out her math textbook. Megan said she would save her a seat so she had to hurry.

On her arrival, she found Megan sitting in the third row staring intently at her phone screen and she rushed to her and took the empty seats next to her. The maths teacher was yet to come which made it ecstatic for Mabel. She didn't like being late for classes.

Megan dropped her phone and her attention quickly diverted to Mabel who was making sure she had all complete ten pencils. The girl was a nerd, she kept ten pencils incase one of them broke she would have the other one at hand.

" So how did it go with Holden?", Megan asked for Mabel to stare at her blankly, she just lost count of what she was doing and Megan sighed. " Did Holden eat you alive for telling on him?", she asked again and Mabel smiled. " No he didn't, he just said I should sort it out, I just hope I will be able to help him", she said for Megan to nod in understanding

" I quit being a cheerleader", Megan said softly for Mabel to stare at her in shock. " I thought you loved that group?", she asked surprised that Megan would actually quit that. " Well I thought if I didn't want to be the old Megan there were some things I had to drop you know and That was one of them", she said softly and stared at the black screen of her phone.

" You sure you wanna do that?", Mabel asked this time worried that Megan might end up regretting the decision. She didn't want her new friend to feel bad. Somehow she felt that everything concerning Megan was concerning her too.

Megan looked up and smiled at her " I'm okay", she said and kept smiling but Mabel looked at her blankly before dropping the pencils and adjusting her glasses, " You know there's this saying that sometimes okay is not just okay, you can do better than okay", she said and flashed Megan that nerdy smile she got.

" Nice speech, will think about it", Megan nodded and just then students began to walk into the class, Jace, Holden, Lilly Rose and some other students before the teacher finally settled down.

" Class.... Open your textbook to page 504..... we have a long day today".
