New Plan

People were frightened when the power users first appeared, a war could break out any minute, those who got their hands on more and strong power users were safer though.

That is why the government searched actively for those power users by offering a large sum of money for the families who give up their own sons and daughters with superpowers to the government.

It was almost midnight, Justine was pacing left and right in her room waiting for Damon to come back, she was wondering what was that thing that he had to do, even though his whole body was covered with bruises and he was in pain.

Finally, she hears the door unlocking, it was Damon he entered the room limping from the pain and he was carrying a suitcase, Justine couldn't move her eyes away from that suitcase, she was wondering what could that be.

The first thing Damon did when he entered the room was to ask Justine,

"Did you get back your family's treasured goblet?"

Justine replies angrily while pouting,

"Who cares about that now? Where did you go off to? Why didn't you go to the nurse to treat you?"

Instead of answering her questions, Damon let out a small laugh then he opens the suitcase, it was full of stacks of money, Damon puts a devilish smile on his bruised face and says,

"I had to get this money."

"Where did you get this money from?" Justine asks.

When Justine asked him that, suddenly his expression changed; his face became serious and Justine could see the sorrow in Damon's eyes.

"It was the money Mom had sent me every year but I would refuse to accept it. After my mother died, the principal called up for me and told me that he had kept all this money in his safe for me."

"I see…" Justine replies simply trying to hide her emotions.

"What are you going to do with that money?" Justine asks curiously.

"I will repay your trust." Damon replies

That answer confused Justine even more, she said,

"Repay my trust, What are you talking about?"

"Since you trusted me with your money, it's my turn to trust you as well; I will give you all this money and you will use them to bet on my upcoming matches-" Damon explains.

"I will climb the ranking ladder as slowly as I can so that we can bet more and make more money as I rise in the ranking slowly but surely." Damon continues.

"Is that why you didn't show your true powers in that match? To make people think that your win was a fluke? " Justine says with a slight glimpse of annoyance in her tone.

"That is right, What do you think about my plan?" Damon replies excitedly.

"To make more money, you let yourself be punched over and over till your whole body became bruised like that?" Justine says with a tone of disappointment.

"Are you disappointed?" Damon asks.

Justine wipes out that disappointing expression off her face and asks,

"What about your plan to climb the ranking fast in order to protect your country from more possible attacks?"

"I don't really care about my country as much as I care about you, I have to repay you even at the cost of my own country's safety" Damon replies confidently.

Justine didn't expect that reply, she was speechless on hearing that, her face became red and she turned her head away to not let Damon see her, then she said,

"L-lets go to sleep for tonight, we have to go early in the morning to the nurse to treat your wounds before the school starts"

They both went to sleep without saying anything more. Actually, only Damon was asleep; Justine stayed awake till late hours thinking about Damon's words.
