Awkward Silence

Justine was waiting for Damon to come out of the bathroom nervously.

She was trying to come up with a good excuse as to why she was hugging him. But she failed, she actually wished that he would stay in the bathroom longer because she couldn't face him.

Suddenly the sound of the tap stops and Damon slides open the bathroom door, while wiping his face off with a towel.

When Damon puts down the towel off his face, Justine holds her mouth while laughing inside trying to hide it. But it was so apparent that Damon picked it up right away.

Taken aback by Justine chuckling, he asked her curiously,

"What are you laughing at?"

Damon was clueless that his eyes have swollen so much from crying the whole night.

Justine tries to calm herself and look to him on the face to reply, but she fails miserably and starts laughing out loud as soon as she looks at his face directly.

Damon gets more puzzled and irritated about the reason why she is laughing so repeats his question but in a forceful tone this,

"What are you laughing out?!"

Justine senses that Damon is pissed she lowers her eyes and says while giggling,

"Your eyes…"

"You are almost unrecognizable with puffy eyes" she continues explaining.

Damon was so annoyed as Justine kept laughing at him so he turns his head away and says,

"Hmph, didn't you have puffy eyes ever before in your life-"

"What is so funny about this?"

Damon was acting like a kid who sulks whenever his parents make fun of him, while Justine continued laughing her heart out without taking Damon's feelings into consideration.

Laughers filled the room that was gloomy a few hours ago, they both forgot all about the sad times they went through during the summer as if they didn't happen in the first place.

But this doesn't last long; as the awkward silence falls over the room after laughter…

Both Damon and Justine were on the floor looking away at the corners of the room avoiding making eye contact.

Justine couldn't find the right words to explain why she hugged him earlier, also Damon couldn't explain why he hugged her back.

The first one who could break this silence was Justine, she said nervously while blushing,

"A-about the hug before"

"This is called hug-"

"Oh, I mean shock therapy"

"Shock therapy?" Damon asks while tilting his head on the side wondering what she meant.

"Nurse, Reselda, told me about it, this was the only way to get you back to your senses" Justine explains.

"I have tried everything possible, but this was the only thing I didn't. So I -"

"Thank you…" Damon says that in a tendering tone while looking directly in her eyes.

The silence gloms over the room again, Justine's heart flutters after hearing those words, she was afraid that Damon would hear her heartbeat in this silence.

Even though Justine kind of knew why he hugged her back tightly when she tried to push him away, she wanted to hear the reason from his own tongue. Perhaps she was expecting another answer.

"By the way why did you-"

Just when she was about to finish her question, Damon says interrupting her,

"It's all my fault"
