Chapter Two Hundred and Fifty Nine - Amelia in Custody

The only excerpt Adian gave from his talk with Amelia was Adana's wellbeing during the weekend but I didn't miss his red eyes and forced smile, which is my speciality.

My suggestion that she stay with us was quickly shut down with Ryan suggesting, he go back home to supervise, for the weekend.

What shocked me though was Adian's and Mr. Gussippie response.

"If she doesn't cooperate with us, as a minor she will be placed in foster care for the weekend." Adian said, addressing Mr. Gussippie.

"No," I whispered yelled. "You can't do that to her," I explained glancing at Ryan for support.

Shrugging helplessly, "Adian is right," Mr. Gussippie agreed. "If the minor is unwilling to remain with a family member and by her outburst earlier, we have to be careful that she don't accuse anyone of you for taking advantage of her." I gasped at Mr. Gussippie words. "Hailey, she's out for revenge, so I'm going to involve Social Services and do it by the book." Mr. Gussippie states and apparently, I'm the only one who objected.

Adian and Basil went out first with Mr. Gussippie and a Social Services officer to speak to Adana while Ryan and I stood by and looked on from a distance.

"How did I not realise it?" I whispered softly to myself, staring at Adana's flushed face, as she glared angrily at her brother.

Looking behind Adian and Basil, "WHERE'S MOM?" She shouts, while the Social Service officer and Mr. Gussippie stood by listening to her outburst.

Without taking his eyes of Adana, "that she's your sister?" Ryan whispered softly.

Turning swiftly to look at him, "you would know," I whispered nervously. "Everyone would know?" I couldn't help muttering, wondering why Adian kept it from me.

As if sensing my train of thoughts, "I believe Adian suspected it but your father confirmed it," I held my chest at Ryan's admittance.

"Your father made Adian promise not to say anything because he wanted to speak to you about it," Ryan quickly explains, while Adana loud shriek brought our attention back to her.

Adana was staring over Basil's shoulder and shouts at me, "you f**king bitch," she screamed, venting her rage at me.

"You destroyed our family," Adana accused but I couldn't go towards her because Ryan held me back.

Lifting her eyes angrily at Adian, "you messed it all up by falling for her damsel in distress drama." Lowering her voice. she cries to her brother, "you were just supposed to marry her and get my inheritance and then dump her." Adana said as she wailed, slumping to the ground. "You made a deal with mom and you went back on it." Adana continued wailing while her word hit my heart like daggers piercing through and through! "You promised Adian, you promise and I'll never forgive you for that." The tone of her voice drops but I still heard, "never." Covering her face with her palms Adana sobbed.

Snapping suddenly, she lifted her enraged eyes to mines once again, "you ruined the plan," she accused me. "You took everything from me, even my father." Adana continued while everyone stood in silence listening to her outburst.

I stare back at the girl I now know to be my half sister and my sister-in-law, still shocked and wishing I had known before but maybe I would not have handle it well.

But she also knew!

I can't do this anymore! I can't listen to Adian and his family's plan to betray me.

Was putting me in a Mental Asylum part of Adian's plan also?

Her inheritance? Is this what this hate is all about? Her inheritance? Marrying me to take everything and giving it to Adana?

Turning to Ryan, "I have to go," I said, already walking away. "I need to breath." I added, making quick strides to add distance between me and the group surrounding Adian and his family.

"Adian!" I heard Ryan call from behind me as I walked down the long flight of stairs leaving Adian to deal with his rebellious sister because I have had enough for today and I can't afford for my mood to worsen because when it does, I am no good to myself and no good for Adian.

"Hey," Adian grabbed my arm to stop me before I got to the bottom of the steps. "Are you okay?" Staring intently into my eyes, I see the reflection of concern and fear and his.

His eyes are still red and from dealing with his mother and now he is burden with dealing with his sister who doesn't want his help and added to that, he has to deal with me.

Embarrass for not considering his feelings, I smile and nod. Reaching out, I caress his face. "I'm tired and I'm worried about you." I admitted sighing with relief when he smile back.

Throwing an arm around my shoulder, "let's go, we can pick Emmy up earlier today." He said taking long deep breaths.

Looking up where Basil still stood with Mr. Gussippie and Ryan, "what about Adana?" I wondered because she is important to the both of us. "What did she decide?" I asked wanting to take her with us but afraid to be in the same room with her.

Following my eyes, "it's not recommended that she come with us so she's been taken into Social Services," Adian looked away, "let's go." He added as we walked down the steps in silence.

There were photographers around since Amelia announce she was subpoena to testify at a hearing.

"Mr. Knights, where's your mother?" One reporter shoved a microphone at Adian, while flashbulbs started blinding us.

With the palm of his hand Adian covered my cheek, pulling my head against his chest to hide me from the blasts of the flashes.

Suddenly I heard Mr. Gussippie and Basil's voice pushing against the large crowd of reporters and photographers that was gathered at the foot of the Courthouse.
