After driving for ten minutes, we finally arrived at our destination. We arrived at a white coloured mansion with huge metal gates. Karla popped her head through her window and the guard at the gate made a word for the gates to be opened.
'Are we at a governor's house?' I wondered. The mansion was very beautiful. Just slightly more beautiful than ours. Karla came to a halt and I just stared directly at nothing.
"Are you ready?" I shook my head viorously
"No, I still don't know why I was invited."
"Do you know the privilege you're having right now? This is your one way ticket to Hawthorne fame!"
"Let's just get this over with." I alighted from the car and took a deep breath.
'Ok Emily, just stay calm and act normal. You already know people here so everything should go well. Only three people, but it's something.'
I treaded softly behind Karla. As she opened the door, loud music that I couldn't hear outside filled my ears.
'The house is actually soundproof!'
I went in and there were at least twenty people in the extremely large parlour. Teens holding plastic cups, and a plate filled with snacks went up and about. Thankfully, no one bothered to check who came in.
"Come, I'm going to introduce you to my long-time friends." She held my hand and guided me through the path infested with wild teenagers. She was acting like a mother duck, protecting her child.
"Girls!" Karla yelled to a group of girls. One with an extremely pretty face turned and waved wildly. She reminded me of Felicia, in terms of looks. I just hope she's not like her.
"Karla, finally!" She held her cup in her hand. Immediately, her eyes dashed to my side and I unconsciously held my breath.
"You must be Emily." She paused to quickly skim my entire body. "I'm Katherine, but you can just call me Kat. Nice to meet you." She stretched out her hand and I took it.
"Nice to meet you too." She gave me a small smile.
"And I'm Tasha." I suddenly took note of the owner of the voice. I had seen her but I didn't pay too much attention to her because I was wondering if Kat acted any way like Felicia. Right now, I don't think she does.
"Nice meeting you." I started to take in my environment properly. There were so many unknown faces. I still haven't seen Mike, or Carl.
"Emily, have a drink." Karla pushed a cup filled with something I considered to be a punch. At least I hoped it was.
"It's just a fruit punch. Most of us aren't of age yet." She gave me a reassuring smile and I nodded slightly.
"Thanks." I took a sip to find out that it was actually punch, strawberry in fact.
"So, you're new here. And you're definitely coming to Hawthorne. Tell us more about yourself." Said Tasha. She had long brown hair, a nice petite body and green eyes that I was slightly envious of.
"I actually just applied so…"
"Come on, you're definitely getting in. As long as you have some sort of good grade, and unique skills, you're getting in." Kat told me.
"Oh, ok."
"Now go on, tell us something about yourself." Kat uttered. I thought deeply for like three seconds.
"Firstly, I'm not a fan of parties." I told them.
"Really? So why are you here then?" Tasha questioned. Karla chuckled and pointed to herself.
"That's all my doing. I literally dragged her here." She said with a victorious smile which made me roll my eyes.
"I let you too. Trust me Karla, when I don't want to do something, no one can force me to. I guess I was a little bit curious about the party."
"Lies." She coughed. Karla then continued.
"You were giving me the biggest doe eyes, you can't say that I didn't force you here, cause I did."
"Alright, tell us more." Kat encouraged. There was a bright gleam in her eyes and it made me self-conscious. It was like she was digging for some big dirt on me.
"I'm an introvert. Socialising isn't my thing."
"Explains why you hate parties." Kat said thoughtfully.
"I never said I hated parties, I just don't like coming to them." I defended. I took three sips from my drink, the taste made my taste buds dance with joy.
"Emily, you're here!" It was Mike.
"Hi Mike." I said with a small smile. He gave a small wave to the others.
"Hi ladies."
"Hi Mike." They all chorused. It seemed weird.
"I'm glad that you could make it. Hawthorne's newest member needed to be here at all cost."
'I haven't even been accepted! They really see me being one of them.' I thought. Karla, who had been very vocal, stopped talking and the others were busy whispering to her. She seemed to be shy.
'Right, because of Mike.'
Ladies, come join the party." He held my hand and pulled me away from the girls. I was completely startled.
'Cutie Mike is holding my hand? That's mind-blowing!' Ok, I know that I might be sounding like I like him, but I do not. I mean, he's cute and all, but I don't feel anything for him.
As we got further into the heart of the party, I saw a familiar face playing pool with some other guys. As if he had eyes behind his head, he snapped his gaze towards me and a huge grin formed on his face.
"Senorita!" I gave him a small smile.
"Hey Carl." He wrapped an arm around my shoulders and I froze.
"What are you doing here, not that I'm complaining?" Mike rolled his eyes, but Carl acted like he hadn't seen him.
"I was forced to come."
"Ha, it must have been my sister right? She can be quite persuasive. I can see you've met my friend Mike."
"Yes, she has. And stop sticking to her like that." Mike said, slightly irritated. Carl had a knack for flirting with any girl he saw and obviously Mike hated it.
"I'm not glued to her or anything, and besides, she isn't complaining."
'I'm not complaining because I'm trying to be nice, Carl.' Carl was a funny guy, but his flirting made me uncomfortable. Maybe it's because no guy has outrightly flirted with me. God I should never say that out.
"No, no, no! Get away from her right now." Karla said as she got beside me.
"Karla, I'm only having a peaceful conversation with Emily and Mike. Can you please not destroy it?"
"The only thing that will be destroyed will be your arm. Now get your hand off her."
"Fine." He still had his famous smile. I'll see you later Senorita!" And then he was gone.
"If he comes near you again, just scream for help, ok?" Said Karla to me.
"It's alright. I think that's just his nature."
"Yeah Karla. Carl might be a big womaniser, but he acts like that to everyone. It's how he is. But Emily just be careful, he's got quite the charm."
"Has his charm affected you once?" I asked curiously. Mike's eyes widened slightly.
"No, I'm just saying that you should watch out." He mumbled. Karla laughed.
"Gosh Mike, wipe that look off your face. Now Emily, let's go have some fun!"
'Here we go'
