Ren Lanfeng said, "Girl Liu, I'll be going to the city in a couple of days anyways, so I'll help you ask about it when I go to the yamen."
"But you need to be prepared that even if it's still for sale, it will take quite a bit of money. From what I remember the plot of land they want to sell is pretty big, and I don't think they will allow you to buy just a part of it…"
Liu Xiaolan smiled. "No problem, thank you for taking the trouble to help me, Uncle Ren."
After drinking her tea and talking a few more moments with the Ren Lanfeng and his father, Liu Xiaolan said her goodbye and went back home.
When she was in a place nearby enough to see her current home, she notices a nervous Mu Yuchen standing at their home's entrance and looking around.
"Little fool, what's wrong with you? Why do you look as if someone stole all your money?" She asked with a playful smile on her face.
Mu Yuchen didn't wait for her to finish and upon hearing her voice rushed to her, taking her in his arms and hugging her. "Nobody stole the money, my lady! I've done my task and protected it all the time…"
Liu Xiaolan blushed and tried to pry herself out of his arms, but the more she moved, the more Mu Yuchen wouldn't let her go. "Lady doesn't move…"
Just as she was getting a little angry and was about to break out, she heard him again. "I've been scared that something happened to lady when I wasn't there. Next time lady should just take the money with her and don't leave me behind alone…"
Liu Xiaolan looked towards his wronged eyes and sighed. She closed her eyes and slowly put her head on his chest, letting him hug her quietly.
Just what was she supposed to do with this little fool? Liu Xiaolan knew that she should be angry with him for taking advantage of her, but thinking of his expression, somehow her anger disappeared and she softened her attitude towards him.
Oh well, she decided to give their relationship a try anyway. A little hug won't hurt her, she might as well indulge him a little this time.
After another few minutes, Liu Xiaolan decided that it's enough already. "Alright little fool, quickly let me go."
Mu Yuchen was still not satisfied, but in the end seeing the anger coming back in Liu Xiaolan's eyes, he slowly let her go and muttered to himself, "Next time lady should let me hug for more time…"
Good thing that Liu Xiaolan didn't hear him, or she would truly burst with anger. This little fool just took advantage of her and already thought of the next time? What next time?
Anyway, for now she ignored him and went inside their home to take care of the things she bought in the city today.
It was getting a little late, so Liu Xiaolan thought about their evening meal tonight. Because of all the haste they haven't eaten yet…
"Little fool, can you go and pick something to start a fire? We've run out of branches to heat up our food…" She asked while pointing to the corner with her iron pot.
Mu Yuchen immediately sprung up in action and run towards the mountains. Seeing his behaviour, Liu Xiaolan could only smile helplessly…
She picked up a wooden bucket and decided to go to the river for some water in the meaning time. After all that happened today, there shouldn't be anyone crazy enough to come and try to steal from them again, right?
When she thought of her dinner tonight, Liu Xiaolan felt a little saliva flowing down her mouth. After days of eating raw mushrooms and unseasoned food, tonight she finally managed to buy some salt.
She wanted to get some pepper and other spices as well, but it seems like the trade in these times is still not too advanced. Even if there are some spices on sale, their cost is too big for her.
Liu Xiaolan previously thought that selling mushrooms was a big cake before, but now she couldn't help but think that growing some spices is better than opening a gold mine...
When she came back home with a bucket full of water, she noticed that Mu Yuchen was already back.
"Little fool, even if you can't find any broken branches nearby, you can go further and pick some up. We can't cook food without fire…" Liu Xiaolan sighed.
Mu Yuchen looked at her with grievances and said, "I didn't pick up brunches because they are small and not good… Isn't doing this better?"
Seeing him pointing towards a corner of their house, Liu Xiaolan came in and was shocked.
It turned out that he didn't pick up any branches, but he did take their axe and cut down firewood, pilling it inside their house. Not only was the amount pretty big, but it was neatly cut, in pieces small enough to make a good fire.
Looking at it, Liu Xiaolan felt that she was a little foolish as well. Although she couldn't cut down anything even with all her strength, it doesn't mean that her little fool couldn't do it!
Mu Yuchen was much stronger than her to begin with, and now it would seem like his body recovered pretty well. After all, he managed to cut down and bring back a lot of firewood in the short amount of time she spent picking up water.
Liu Xiaolan looked at her little fool waiting for praise and suddenly laughed. Seeing that he was puzzled by her behaviour, she touched his head and said, "Little fool, you've done well. From now on you will be responsible for bringing us some firewood when we need it again, alright?"
"No problem my lady. I'm going to be as useful as I can…" He answered happily, feeling Liu Xiaolan's hand touching his hair.
