Lily looked at Rias with a sharp gaze. "Don't be too hard on him, Rias. Do you remember how he helped you when you were almost chased by a camel in the Middle East?" she said firmly.
Rias stifled a laugh, but confusion shone in her eyes. "Yes, that..." she paused for a moment before continuing, "that was an unforgettable incident."
I smiled at the memory. "But it was an interesting moment. Who would have thought that Lady Gremory would be afraid of camels?"
Rias narrowed her eyes at me. "Don't start, Eugene."
"What are you two talking about?" asked Koneko, who had previously been busy with candy in the corner of the room. And, as usual, she always managed to conceal her presence with her jutsu.
"Do you know that Rias is afraid of camels, Koneko-chan?" I asked, trying to add a little spice to the situation.
Koneko nodded briefly. "Yes, I remember. It was a very funny moment."
Rias rolled her eyes, feeling increasingly trapped in this situation. "You two really don't know when to stop, do you?"
Lily smiled casually. "We're just speaking our minds, Rias."
I added, "And who would have thought that a Lady Gremory, who is so influential, could have such a funny fear?"
Rias sighed clearly annoyed. "Alright, alright. You win," she said with a frustrated expression, but I could see a small smile at the corner of her lips.
When Rias and Koneko joined us at the cafe, the atmosphere immediately became livelier. Although I felt a bit annoyed with Rias, I still decided to enjoy the time with my friends.
"I miss the Tiramisu here," Koneko said, looking at the table with a small smile.
"It's really delicious, isn't it?" I nodded in agreement. "Since I'm in a good mood today, I'll treat you all. Choose whatever you like."
Rias looked at me with a surprised expression. "Eugene, you don't have to..."
"It's okay," I quickly interrupted. "Let's just enjoy the food and the atmosphere here."
While we enjoyed our dishes, Akeno suddenly appeared in front of us with a serious expression. "Sorry to interrupt you," she said politely.
"Akeno, what's wrong?" I asked, drawing attention to her.
"Issei was attacked by a Fallen Angel," she said with concern. "Rias, we need to go immediately."
Rias immediately looked panicked, feeling the heavy responsibility for the safety of her members. However, Koneko seemed reluctant to leave her seat.
"Come on, Koneko. We have to go now," Rias urged, trying to persuade her.
Koneko shook her head firmly. "I'm not going, I'll stay here with Onii-chan." Her words instantly rendered Rias powerless.
Although Koneko was a member of her Peerage, she seemed more attached to me than to her. Meanwhile, Akeno tried to persuade the cat girl kindly to join them in saving Issei.
Lily and I just sat quietly, watching their interaction without paying too much attention. We were still busy enjoying our food.
Before leaving, Akeno bowed her head politely towards me. "Thank you, Eugene. I apologize for this disturbance," she said softly.
I just smiled and nodded, understanding that sometimes their affairs didn't need to involve us. As they left, we continued eating, unconcerned about the matter. Although I cared about the safety of innocent civilians who might be caught up in the fight, with Akeno and Koneko there, it seemed like it wouldn't be a problem.
Luckily, Rias has reliable companions like them. I acknowledge their abilities, but I feel somewhat regretful seeing their talents under the command of that spoiled girl.
I can only hope that Rias will change her selfish attitude. Although all her members owe her gratitude for being saved, I know that it's all part of the setup by her siscon older brother, Sirzechs, who wants loyal servants for Rias.
It's not that I'm angry, but I disagree with such a manner that seems to treat us as saviors in their eyes. And such loyalty seems disgusting to me, because their loyalty is only played out when they know this dark fact.
After finishing our meal, Lily and I returned to our private dorm, not far from the Academy.
...
Later that night.
Feeling idle, I let Lily stay behind while I spied on the activities of the Gremory group. Flying above the sky near the hill where the only church in town, now dilapidated, was located.
The church had been neglected for 10 years, ever since the caretaker, the only priest in the church, died, and no one was able to take care of the place, so it fell into disrepair like that.
From above, I watched the ongoing battle in front of the dilapidated church. Issei, Koneko, and Kiba faced off against a group of fallen angel hunters. Issei seemed to be struggling a bit, but Koneko quickly leaped forward, ready to fight.
With her expertise in close combat, Koneko deftly outmaneuvered her opponents. With agile movements, she managed to evade the attacks of opponents using silver bullet guns and light swords and deliver deadly blows in return. Meanwhile, Kiba wielded his sword skillfully, cutting down the silver bullets aimed at him with speed that was difficult to follow. With nimble footsteps, he counterattacked his opponents.
Issei, although still a novice, tried his best to help. He used his Sacred Gear, Boosted Gear, to enhance his strength. However, his attacks sometimes missed the mark, and he was still learning to control his powers properly.
"Do these fallen angels not know the type of Sacred Gear Issei holds? Sometimes, the artifact conceals its true form, so that its master doesn't die at its first appearance," I muttered, turning my attention to the battle between Rias and Akeno, which had already ended. They managed to defeat three fallen angels, including Millet, Kalawarna, and Dohnaasek.
Each of them was a Grigori warrior who had fought long battles in the great war. Now, they were defeated by the current generation's children, which was truly embarrassing.
'They are so confident in their pure power, more than appreciating their years of experience in facing attacks from us, who are much younger,' I thought.
A few moments later, feeling a bit bored, I approached a bit closer to watch, even though they might notice me, but what's the harm. After all, this is also my business.
As I flapped my demon wings towards the entrance of the church, I could hear something from inside.
"No!... Asia, wake up!" Someone groaned with sorrowful cries.
"Hehehe~ It's useless, Issei-kun. She's already gone, when someone's Sacred Gear is forcibly removed like this, there's nothing to expect from them other than death. It's a pity, I kinda liked her innocence a bit, but oh well, at least she was useful," said the voice of a young woman, who from her voice seemed to be mocking the crying man in front of her.
I was startled in front and wondered... 'What's going on?'
