Chapter 9

Jon was not sleepy.

He pulled off his hat and flipped it atop his cameras. Then he reached to unbutton his shirt. It didn’t quite make the chair.

“I don’t know about you, but I’m going to get comfortable,” he said. He dropped to sit on the foot of the bed and unlaced his hiking boots. After a day of standing and walking, they always felt like they were made of lead. Kicking them aside, he peeled off his socks and wiggled his toes

“Ahhh, that feels great. Come on, Clay. Make yourself at home.” He stood just long enough to circle to one side of the bed. Then he heaped three of the four pillows against the headboard and flopped down to slouch on them. “Well, fuck, I forgot to get the remote.”

Clay retrieved it from the credenza. “Here, catch.” He tossed it over before he sat in the second chair to get out of his athletic shoes. Then he pulled off his T-shirt and laid it neatly on the back of the chair.
