Last of The Fae

Unlike other muggle borns Thane always knew magic was real. He could feel it in the world around him and even more importantly, within himself. But isolated and alone Thane could only dream of one day going out into the world and discovering if there were others like him. But Thane would have never guessed that there was an entire hidden world where everyone was either a wizard or a witch. Thane also never would have guessed that he had a bigger role to play in the grand scheme of the world, one that would require him to grow and learn faster than any reasonable person would expect. --- If you want to read more of Last of the Fae consider subscribing my patreon where there is up to 16 advanced chapters for you to read. "You…isolate welp!" Voldemort shouted as Quirell's body shook with barely contained rage, "Once I am resorted to my full power I will slowly tear your soul apart piece by piece as your screams for mercy fall on my deaf ears!"

There wasn't a hint of fear on Thane's face as he watched the spittle fly from Voldemort's malformed lips as he spewed threats of violence and torture, "That all depends on how many pieces of your soul you have stashed around the world. Because this version of you won't live to see the sunrise. Oh and before you attempt to enact your revenge just remember…this is the weakest I'll ever be."

Voldemort hissed, "Quirinus are you just going to allow this child to speak to your lord like this?!"

"B-but Master, my pathways-"

"I don't care about your blasted magic! Kill the fool for insulting my name!" Voldemort roared, shaking the air with his fury.

"I-I c-can't," Quirell protested before he gasped and collapsed to a knee while clutching his head in visible agony, "M-master w-what are you doing…m-mercy…mercy!"

"This is the last time you fail me Quirinus, I've tolerated your inadequacy for far too long," Voldemort's face twisted into a malicious mask of glee as Quirell's head snapped back as his eyes glowed with a sickly green light.

"ARGH!!" Quirell let out a long agonizing scream as he reached back and clawed at the face emerging from the back of his head but Voldemort simply laughed even as Quirell's fingernails drew long red lines in his flesh, "It's too late you bumbling fool, you're soul is mine!"

Thane's eyes widened in realization and in a flash he lunged forward, spellblade poised to stab Quirrell in the heart, but alas he was too late.

All of a sudden Quirell's screams cut off as the professor thrust out his hand and a shimmering green barrier flashing into existence cutting off Thane's advance.

Narrowing his eyes at the sudden use of magic Thane leapt back, and assumed a defensive stance watching the now fully possessed Quirrell for any sudden movements.

"Strange, I expected you to try and break through my barrier," Voldemort said, his voice coming out distorted and uneven from Quirell's mouth as he stood up and still raised to maintain the barrier, "How unfortunate."

Voldemort lowered his hand and the barrier collapsed, but instead of phasing out the shield dropped to the floor like water hissing as it hit the ground with a burst of steam melting the bedrock with ease.

"Who trained you boy?!" Voldemort demanded and Thane couldn't help but feel his heart pound in chest , forever thankful that he had Elara as a teacher.

'I don't care if your opponent summons a litter of puppies, if you can't name the spell or recognize what it does, run away. The most dangerous opponents are the most cunning and crafty.'

"Lost your tongue?" Voldemort taunted as he raised his hand and pointed a finger at Thane, "If you're thinking of begging for your life…I'm afraid it's far too late for that now! I'll enjoy watching your fear consume you."

As he finished talking, Voldemort dragged his finger through the air in a diagonal slash and Thane's eyes widened as an invisible blade of air shot towards him with the speed of an arrow.

Kneeling down Thane slapped his bare palm against the ground and a wall of stone surged up in front of him just in time to block the blade of air that crashed into the bedrock palisad with an explosion of dust.

Stumbling back from the collision Thane tried to recover his footing only for a spectral hand covered in ragged cloth to pierce through the cloud of dust and latch onto his shoulder.

Thane let out a grunt of pain as a blood chilling frost spread through his arm as a thin layer of ice covered the sleeve of his robes. Reacting quickly Thane's spellblade flashed out, cutting the ghostly hand off at the wrist and the spell burst apart in a small cloud of gray smoke.

Voldemort's laughter rang through the air as the dust cloud cleared revealing a massive diagonal rent in the floor, "That's it despair, contemplate the fact that soon you will all be on your knees begging me for-"

From across the room a bolt of red light struck Voldemort in the face, making him stumble back with an indignant splutter and cutting his speech short.

"Ain't no one getting on their knees for your ugly mug!" Ron shot back the red light slowly fading from the tip of his wand.

Voldemort roared as he stood upright and thrust both his hands forward, and a gale of deathly black wind howled into existence growing into a deathly spiral before it rushed forward tearing a furrow along the ground and sending stone fragments flying everywhere.

"Stupefy!" Harry shouted as he stepped forward and thrust his wand out, sending a bolt of energy flying from his wand, but when the spell met the maelstrom it was snuffed out, overcome by the unstoppable force of nature.

Fleeing as the cured tornado started to expand, growing to fill almost the entire width of the room, Thane arrived back at the top of the stairs next to Harry, Hermione and Ron as the violent winds clawed at them with a haunting howl.

"What now?!" Hermione asked no one in particular as she stared at the living storm bearing down on them racking her mind for an idea.

Thane stared at the massive feat of magic in front of him and realized there was nothing he could cast that could impact a spell of this scale. Even if Voldemort was only a remnant of his true self, Thane had read enough to know that the Dark Lord was one of the most powerful Mages in the past century.

"There is nothing you can do, accept your fate and perish!" Voldemort screamed, his hands still held out as he channeled the spell, but as Thane peered through the storm he noticed the beads of sweat collecting along Voldemort's brow and the sickly green veins crawling up his neck.

'His possession is failing, Quirell's body is starting to reject him,' Thane thought to himself before suddenly taking a seat on the ground and crossing his legs.

"What are you doing man?! Now's not the time to give up," Ron shouted but his voice was stolen away by the wind as the maelstrom reached the bottom of the stairs.

Closing his eyes Thane focused through the howling wind as he delved into his mind and summoned the spring emotions that had been pushing him forward ever since he had been set on this path. For so long he had been alone, adrift without a place to take root and without a family to breath life and make that place a home.

Now Thane had a chance, and he wouldn't give it up so easily.

Thane let out a long exhale as the howling winds went quiet in his mind and a lone flute drifted across his ears, "Expecto Patronum."

Thane barely said the word above a whisper, but it resonated through the air clearly heard even over Voldemort's spell. But even if Thane's incantation wasn't heard the effect was impossible to miss.

A silver ring of light erupted out from Thane hitting the tornado and stopping its advance, but the spell was far from over. The tattoo's hidden along Thane's forearms lit up glowing brightly with a silver radiance as his hair exploded floating into the air and fanning out around Thane's head.

And from the ground behind Thane a massive tree emerged, constructed of pure silver light with a massive canopy and tunneling roots that spread through the room infusing the ground with even more energy. The tree continued to grow until it reached the ceiling, towering above everyone present and drowning the room in its silver rays.

Voldemort roared as he held up his hands and stumbled back trying to avoid the light while his skin began to smoke, "What is this!? You shouldn't be this powerful!"

Thane wished he could respond to the dark lord's perpetual cries but every fiber of his being burned as he channeled the spell, and he almost felt his control slip when a hand settled on his shoulder.

Thane looked up to see a towering figure of light kneeling next to him, 'I stand with you…we all stand with you.'

Thane followed Thalion's eyes to see countless figures perched within the branches of his patronus, and while most were far too blurry to make out their faces Thane could see they all sported long tapered ears.

The power rushing through Thane intensified and so did the light shining through the room to the point where it was almost blinding.

"No…NO!!!" Voldemort roared but he was drowned out as the tree behind Thane exploded in a wave of silver light drowning everything out in its wake.
