Ahli tried his best to catch up with Sharon who was already way ahead of him. He could see how she had only less than 50 meters with the necromancer. At a very high speed, she was approaching him.
As Ahli shifted his view to the Necromancer, he saw how he raised both of his hands up in the air and purple aura energy slowly emitting from it. The energy then flowed downward, creeping through the surface of his body, before finally sipping into the ground.
There was silence for a while, but then tremors started to build up in that area. With every step that Ahli and Sharon took, the tremors became stronger and stronger, and in the end, both of them halt their movement to steady their ground. It shook violently, and it made them fall. Ahli's whole body hit the ground immediately, however, he had a glance and saw how Sharon was able to put herself in a kneeling position.
<TURN 8>
As it reached its peak, the tremors stopped of a sudden. Sharon looked at her surrounding before she stood and continued her dash at the necromancer. Seeing her do that, Ahli tried to push himself up, but what followed next was a scene that Ahli had only seen in movies and video game cutscenes. The ground surrounding Sharon started to explode one or two at the time in unison. From inside it, fleshless arms reached out. Some even showed half a dead body, jumping in surprise, quickly reaching for her.
Seeing that, Ahli pushed his body quicker, trying to position himself to dash forward and give her help, however, he got his fair share of surprise as well when the ground in front of him started to explode and a violently raging skeleton started to reach for him. It made him push his body backward with his heart racing with fear. He fell on his ass and with the help of the push of his hand, he moved further backward, keeping his distance from the skeleton.
As the skeleton started to crawl out from its hole, more popped out at Ahli's right and left. They tried to grab him, with one that was almost successful as one of its fingers got a hook with Ahli's trousers' bottom hem. Ahli tried to pull it forcefully, but more fingers started to grab a hold of the trousers.
He struggled to escape with him moving his leg violently, yet, the skeleton's grip just did not budge at all. Ahli finally took his short sword and aimed it at the skeleton's hand. He took a swing and with that, he cut a small portion of the skeleton's hand along with a part of the fabric of his trousers. He quickly turn his body to face the opposite direction from them and with the push of his first step, he started to dash away from those skeletons.
It took him a turn, but he was able to correct his direction toward Sharon. In his view, he saw how she was dealing with ghouls that are technically slower than the skeletons that he faced. Yet, the number itself was a lot compared to him, like almost ten at a time.
But, Sharon being Sharon as usual, it was quite not a problem for her. As the ghouls started to surround her and blocked her way of escape, Ahli saw a red light from the middle of the barricade, which he could assume coming from Sharon. It was then followed by a yell that Ahli himself could hear clearly.
"SWORD ART! WHIRLWIND BLADE!"
And what comes next was multiple spinning gales came out of the barricade, which then followed by all the ghouls surrounding her being sliced in half, around the stomach or the chest. With them starting to fall to the ground, Ahli saw Sharon kneeling at the center, holding her sword crossed to the left. The red glow on her blade started to fade as she was still in that position.
Ahli never knew that she had that kind of skill. Considering that she rarely uses it, made him realized how strong she is regularly. And in a very dire situation, she is someone that Ahli knew he did not want to mess up with.
<TURN 9>
When Ahli closing on her, he saw how she still breathed heavily. The skill before surely used most of her power.
"Sharon! You okay?"
Ahli quickly lent his hands to help her stand. He put her left arm on his shoulder.
"Yeah, just overly tired."
"What was that? That was super awesome!"
"Really? Just an old skill that I rarely use."
Sharon reached for the bag that she usually carries and opened it. Without looking she reached for a bottle and opened its lid. Ahli saw from the color and look, that it seemed to be the same potion that Sharon gave to him on their first meeting. As she drank it, he saw how her breathing gradually back to normal.
She removed her left arm from his shoulder and was able to properly stand again. She looked at him, but Ahli noticed that her eyes were not aimed at him. He turned and looked behind him and found another surprise.
The skeletons that were attacking him before, in a matter of no time somehow had multiplied in numbers. They at that time had formed an army along with some of the remaining ghouls that seemed to be part of the ones that were attacking the village wall. Ahli could be sure of it as he looked toward the village wall and saw the flames on top of the wall seemed to be steady and not moving like before when the villagers were fighting them.
The army of skeletons and ghouls in unison were marching toward Sharon and Ahli as if they were a group of delinquents ready for a street brawl. Funny for Ahli, as it reminded him of a recently popular Japanese anime that has that gang fight scenes. As someone who never involved in a gang fight, he felt how this might be the fear and excitement of waiting for a real deal gang fight must be.
"Careful with the skeleton, Sharon. They are faster than the ghouls."
"No kidding? This night might be our longest night then."
Sharon prepared her stance. Readying herself to welcome any attack.
"Oh, great. This is truly our longest night."
Intrigued with her words, Ahli looked at her as she was looking in her right back direction. He shifted his view toward it and saw more and more ghouls were coming from the edge of the forest. The numbers were equal or maybe even more than the ones that were eliminated by Dispute in the Pack.
"Hey, Ahli. If we die today, I just want you to know. It was a great journey with you. But, sorry we were unable to find your girlfriend just yet."
Ahli saw her eyes and he saw a sense of regret in it. He also felt the same, as she had helped him a lot since he came to this world. If it wasn't for her, he might be not surviving his first encounter with the goblins. In a way, he realized, that even though he is a card mage, holder of a strong magic system, he has many things to do to surpass her.
<TURN 10>
"Yeah, me too. Was hoping could stay to see you overthrow the other card mages, but I guess this is it for us."
They looked at each other and smiled. Sharon raised a fist toward him, which Ahli answered with a fist bump.
"By the way, how're the cards? Have you got anything helpful yet?"
"Oh, yeah. I haven't checked any because of all the adrenaline rush."
Ahli looked at the cards in his hand. From one that was Dew of Life, he at that moment already had four as 3 turns passed without him realizing. He looked at each of them and a big smile started to appear on his face.
"What's with the smile?" Asked Sharon who became intrigued when she glanced at him.
"Sorry Sharon, I don't want to make our speeches before sound corny and felt cliche, but tonight is not the night we go down just yet."
Ahli showed Sharon a green card to her with a big wide smile that showed how confident he was.
