Two hours later, Zach finished snooping through Jessie's wooden chest, surprised to find so many childhood trinkets stashed away. Family photographs, a clay handprint, several Girl Scout badges, a handmade Christmas ornament, a soiled Raggedy Anne doll, and the most sentimental, was the collection of birthday cards given to her by her dad. Judging from the way he'd found the cards wrapped in an old t-shirt and stuffed inside the belly of a torn teddy bear, showed just how angry and hurt she'd been. It was as though she was hiding them.
Sitting behind his computer, he typed in an address taken from an envelope bearing his name, and what other information he'd found on Joe Kensington and sent it. Leaning back in his chair to catch his breath, his phone played his favorite song.
"Zach Gerard here."
"Hey, Zach, it's Lauren from Elegant Occasions."
"I was just thinking about you. What's up?" he asked.
"We need to go cake shopping."
"Okay. Do you have a baker in mind?"
