Our love turned to jokes,

"I'm about a week away from falling in love with you," "I know,"she sadly said.

" I'm not happy about this," I said,

"silly,"she laughed kissing me on my cheeks.

"Okay, I'm happy about this," I said blushing off.

I dated a girl who will remain nameless out of respect for her privacy. The relationship was very much a conflict of very different personalities, and to this day I'm not sure it was good for either of us, though I very much miss her and hope we get back together someday, more than just about anything. Anyway, through the good, the bad and the ugly the banter was always first rate. And throughout the relationship I would post the highlights on my WhatsApp status with the vague attributions of Me and Her.

This was from our ussual dates. I had known her a few weeks ago, and for once we were both single at the same time. (To clarify I'm usually single but she was rarely so) I invited her to a stand up comedy show I was producing and performing at because I figured at absolute worst it would be an additional audience member. (When you produce a show every audience member is a valued treasure, because when you have more comedians than audience members it is not only a financial disaster, it's super awkward.)

Afterwards we went to dinner and talked for hours, as people on dates do, and somehow she ended up hugging me from behind and I felt an overwhelming wash of emotion. So I told her gruffly that I was about a week from falling in love with her. She, a woman who has seen throngs of men fall at her feet, just said "I know" in this incredibly world-weary fashion.

This naturally pissed me off, as I have a far more prickly pride than is justified, and I said even more gruffly that "I'm not happy about this either." She rewarded this with a kiss on the cheek that set my heart newly aflame and I capitulated completely with "OK, I'm happy about this."
